Differences in Nutrition labels vs. MFP database

I know that I cannot be the only one that has seen this, when you scan an items UPC with your phone and it brings up the nutrition info on MFP, but the numbers differ from what the actual packaging says. This can be a little frustrating..

What numbers do you tend to use?? I know that nutrition labels can sometimes be misleading or not very accurate, but I am curious as to what you all do? If you have the actual package in front of you and MFP is different by like +/- 10-20 calories, carbs, sugars, fiber, etc. Which do you use in your diary's?

I use the label. They are legally obliged to be accurate (though this is still not always the case). The database numbers could come from a different country, an old version of the product or have been entered in error.

I use the label, and may correct the entry if I have time and it's way off. If I do correct an entry, I note the source of the correction (label, product website, etc.).

If the difference is only in calories, and the other info is correct, I may just do a quick add for the difference (if the database is less than the packaging).

My biggest MFP database pet peeve is when I scan something and a totally different food comes up. Tonight, I scanned a bag of Tyson "Fun Nuggets" and it came up as an order of Chik-Fil-A chicken nuggets (or bites or something).

Totally know what you are talking about here, I scanned some Taco Bowl Shells the other day and it came up in the database as sour cream.. REALLY!! not even close :grumble:
