maybe do family stuff? swimming, hiking, etc and fit in either early morning or late night workouts when you are at home

There are lots of ways to get it done, but it depends on how your body works. I have friends that workout at 4:30 am. I commute an hour each way, so I do my workouts at home when I get back from work around 5 or 6 at night. I do Beachbody programs, and I set up a small workout room in my basement. When my boys' lives get crazy, I try to get up earlier or sometimes it's after they go to bed when I tackle the workout. There are programs that are only 25-30 minutes, so they are easy to squeeze in. There are also days that I use my lunch hour to get some movement in. But I schedule it ahead of time, no matter what, and I stick to it as if it's an important appointment. Because for me, it is!

In general, my suggestion is to look at your weekly schedule and then plan out what you are going to do for the next week (or two weeks or month.) Everybody's schedules are different but at 17 months, my daughter was in bed by 7pm so evening exercise would have been easiest at that point. But I don't know your schedule (when you go in/get off, are you out of town all week and only home on weekends, etc.) so I can't get more specific than that.

No one can tell you how to manage your time. Either it's important enough to you that you make time, or it isn't. That's the big question. The problem is that the answer can be different on different days based on what you have going on.

Take a look at your idle time and see if you can use that time more effectively. Also, realize that you may have to let something(s) slide. My house isn't nearly as clean as regularly as it was before I was working our regularly. Would I like it to be? Yup, but it's a trade-off I've consciously made, and I'm OK with it.

It is tough. Sometimes people say "you will make time for what is important to you" but I'm not going to bs you. I have three kids; 5 yo, 2 yo, and 3 month old. I work out during my free time during the work day. I lift so that I can get more bang for my buck (time). I may do some HIIT sometimes and may take the time for a 3 mile run every few weeks. If I wasn't able to do it during my work day, I would have a really tough time getting to work out right now.

When I do workout at home, I have a 25lb slam ball and some dumbbells I use. I do various things with those and also run sprints. My workout at home is 20-30 minutes but it's pretty tough.
