So I'm beginning on my weightloss / fitness journey and I've devised a plan to increase my overall health and strength. Because I never "had" to exercise to stay slim when I was younger, I never did. Well, now that I'm 35 and have had 2 pregnancies (the last one was twins), I've been puttting on weight over the years and want to do something about it finally, and manage to stick with it.

I started walking in my neighborhood for about an hour every day, so I can ease into a fitness routine and create a habit of exercising.

So....what would you all recommend for me to start after a couple of weeks of walking? My stats are:

Age - 35
Height - 5'5"
SW - 167
GW - 135 then reassess

Thank you all in advance!!

Find exercise that you enjoy doing. That will keep you consistent. A good place to find lots of workouts is the internet. Jessica Smith TV, Fitness Blender, Hulu.com Your local library will have DVDs.

Because you are beginning, look for body weight strength exercises. After those get too easy, you will want to add weights. Cardio is good for your heart, but you want to feel challenged. So look for some faster, higher intensity cardio routines.

Eating less will take care of weight loss, strength training will help preserve existing muscle.

Well since you mention improving health and "strength" then should def start getting into some resistance training. Whether through weights, bands, body weight. I personally like to do about a 50/50 split between resistance training and cardio throughout the week. Because I value both my cardiovascular health and my strength. For cardio health and to help increase your calorie deficit just pick whatever cardio you like... running, swimming, HIIT, biking, martial arts, or just a big mix so you don't get bored. Def want to do something a little more then just walking (don't get me wrong walking is great and I do alot of it myself) but getting into the healthy heart/fat burning zone is the goal.

If you're looking to get an actual program to follow you can check out the free stuff TeaBea suggested or if your willing to invest $ into it look into T25, P90X3, Les Mills Pump are all beginner friendly Beachbody programs you can try. I started with T25 a couple of years ago and it whipped me into shape really fast. :)
