Comfort eating

Hi, I've recently developed a problem with comfort eating and it's caused me to gain a stone that I didn't want to gain. So basically I want to loose it. Although I'd like to do it in a healthy and non restrictive way. So does anyone have any advice on not comfort eating, and staying motivated?
I just really like food and always turn to it first when i need cheering up. Thanks in advance for any advice

realize that food is not your friend and it cannot actually provide lasting comfort.
it leads to cycles feel bad, eat, feel bad, eat. feel bad, eat.....
food is fuel and nothing more
deal with these emotions. try journaling or exercise0 -
You need to find other things that make you happy. If you're feeling down a lot then you should deal with "why" your're feeling down a lot. Until you deal with that problem food is always going to be an issue for you.0
