Myers-Briggs Personality Type
A bit more serious question:
Has anyone of you taken the Myers-Briggs Personality Type test? If yes, which one are you, and how do you think it demonstrates in how you approach your health and fitness goals?
You can take the test and see the different types here: http://www.16personalities.com/personality-types It's free, and while it's possibly not as accurate as some more extensive/expensive tests out there, I think it gives a pretty good idea what it is about.
I'm an INFJ. Both a blessing and a curse.

Looks to me like horoscopes based on "psychology" rather than star signs.
I cannot say that the assessment I got from this test (got to take it for a college class and just took it again to see if the results were consistent) reflects my reality and/or my approach to anything in life (in fact, since you specifically asked about the approach to health and fitness goals: it's contradictory)...I think throwing down the chicken bones and planning my goals based on that would be about as useful.
That said, if it works for you: go with it.0 -
I'm actually certified to deliver and interpret the results (I'm a Human Resources dude). The MBPT is one of the most statistically valid instruments of its kind. It doesn't reflect ability, instead our true preferences when we are what they call our "shoes off" selves.
I'm an ISTJ (opposite from the OP on all 4 scales except the first). Completely consistent with how I approach my H&F goals, logically, detail oriented, decisions based on data.
Interesting post @HannaSusi , well done! I'll be curious to see if anyone takes you up on it?0 -
@mhiggi02 , thanks for your input. As far as I've understood, this is indeed one of the most reliable tests of personality analysis, if any. Naturally nobody needs to "believe" in these things, I just find them interesting.
I've taken it every now and then for the past 10 years (also the more extensive ones) to see if it changes. It hasn't.
My type INFJ is consistent with my way of handling diet/fitness: I need creativity, good feelings, beauty and calm of nature, some support from others too but I thrive when I can actually help and support others. When these match, I am very determined, and don't really have any problems of staying on course. But it's very hard for me to step out of my comfort zone, the only time I do that is when I do it to make someone else happy. Which is good! Friends encourage me to try new things.
Anyone else?

I'm an INFP-T. Seems pretty accurate to the way I approach life in general including H&F. I've only had a chance to skim through the results as I have to get ready for work.0

INFP, the mother Teresa -type, so to say Quite close to mine. @iDeltaBigBoy everyone in your life is lucky to have you, but you probably don't give yourself a lot of credit0
-
I believe I am IFSJ... but i'll have to take it again. Thank you for sharing, @hannasusi0

@woznube7 reading these forums I've noticed so many people seem to be struggling with their motivation, goals, every day things... I think that it's probably because they're trying to do what "everyone else" is doing, instead of figuring out what works for them. If someone gets some new ideas because of my post, I'm really happy0

Defender (ISFJ-A) was my result. I'm not sure how that relates to my health and fitness though. But interesting nonetheless.0

@JSurita3 not knowing you at all, from what I'm reading about your type, you sound like the ideal excercising partner or an inspiring personal trainer! Willing to encourage and support others while leading by example, I think your type would be the ideal sports teacher at school Does that sound familiar at all?0
-
I am ESFJ. I've taken the test several times since I was in high school and it's always been pretty much the same. I can see how knowing this could help with diet and exercise.0

Sadly when it comes to exercising, I'd rather follow someone's lead and I'm usually the one who needs encouraging. *shrugs*0 -
I've taken it a couple of times, and usually come out as INTJ. The TJ bit is VERY strong, I like facts and figures, logic is the all-persuasive argument. My husband is a P, and even just recognising this makes it easier to discuss things together.
When it comes to exercise, in the past I've found interacting with people hard work. But since I took up running, and particularly parkrunning, I have a ready store of conversation starters, and my circle of friends has really increased.0 -

Im an INFJ. I don't usually mind, but I do tend toward social anxiety especially at the gym. I'm always worried that I'm going to do something wrong and get in someone's way. I'm phenomenal at creating a workout plan - and terrible about abandoning it if I hit a roadblock (busy gym, sick kids) or come up with something that feels more urgent at the time.
I've always been a little envious of my Vulcan-like ISTJ husband. If he feels like he's getting out of shape he makes a plan and sticks to it one way or another.0 -
I did one of these a few months back, I've just looked up the result and apparently I'm ISFJ-T

ENTJ, I remember taking the test when I was going to college. This seems fitting with my career and I am a born/trained leader. Not that I always use it for good though lol0

INTP. I believe I have taken MBPT 3 times. The first time was about 8 years ago, the results were ENTJ, but the last two times I have taken the MBPT I've gotten INTP. Although, I feel I have more empathy/emotion than the test describes (at least a little more), the rest is pretty spot on.
How this ties into health and fitness - before I start something I research the hell out of it. Even something as simple as running, I was reading tons of different information on form, stride, shoes, stretching, etc. And when I was deciding on a lifting program, lord, lol, I read and watched just about everything...ever! Making a decision on something simple like that can drag on for daaaaaaaaays (or more) with me because I want to make sure I have evaluated all options and pick the best...hello, indecisiveness! However, I did (eventually) make a decision and stuck by it and love it (and STILL research on it).
Oh, and, my responses on mfp forums would also be a result of my INTP. Haha! Long and rambly, I'm sorry!
Edit to add: OP, great topic! Very interesting.0 -
ESFP-T - Never thought of myself as an "Entertainer". College and before I would've described myself as an introvert. Definitely broke out of my shell through the last year of graduation. I do know I acclimate to situations readily and try to fix things that are awry. Might take this again...0

@serenityfrye I was just talking about gym anxiety with a friend! I'm not anxious thinking "They will judge me". But like "I hope nobody comes to talk to me or asks me anything or even smiles at me... What if I have to wait to get to use a machine, what do I do then? I can't just stand there! Should I go to shower or not? What if there's someone else? What if someone says something nice to me and I can't figure out a reply?" I wish I could just be absolutely invisible to others sometimes...

ESTJ-A- From the website "ESTJs are classic images of the model citizen: they help their neighbors, uphold the law, and try to make sure that everyone participates in the communities and organizations they hold so dear." Couldn't be more spot on.0

Yes! This! I hate not knowing what to do with myself while I'm waiting for a squat rack. I usually just go sprint on the track but then I feel like a weirdo for staring at the weights. Really wish I could build a weight room in my own house0 -

I don't need to take the test. I'm a BMFIC.1

Ok so I mistyped...
I am ISFJ-T
which is definitely accurate.0 -

"...knowing that I cannot be opposed, that even a single insolent act will cause me to destroy and destroy and destroy until there is nothing left but atoms for me to scatter across the vast emptiness of the cosmos."
Love it!0 -
When I've taken it, I was pretty much in the middle of all the scales. Really seems to throw the test administrators off when they get the results. (Don't box me in, dude.)0
