Recently moved up toward the mountains and so I'm just starting to explore hiking. Did Humpback Rocks off the Blue Ridge Parkway at Sunset the other night. Quite the hike. Only 2 miles (1 mile up, 1 mile down), but it's an 800 foot elevation climb in that 1 mile, so about a 15% steady grade. I got to the parking lot about 30 minutes before sunset only to see the sign saying "40 minutes to summit". I figured I'd already driven out there so I hauled@ss up the hill and made it in about 20-25 minutes...in time to enjoy the sunset. I have to say, I was definitely sore the next day though. Here are some pics if anyone is interested...wm7bfmdb9krl.jpg

I live near Humpback, down in the Shenandoah Valley. I have always loved the hike up there! Definitely a work out, but the views are worth it.

Yes! I did Black Rock Summit off of Skyline Drive for sunrise this last Saturday, and I have to say that it's a much easier hike and I though the views were even better. Really looking forward to exploring a lot more of them.
