Protein question

I have tried doing research to figure out if you can eat too much protein and keep getting mixed reviews. I always go way over my daily recommended protein goal by lunch. I can keep my calories, carbs, fat, etc within range but not protein. Is this a big deal or should I cut back on the protein? Thanks in advance!

It has been linked to some problems with your kidneys, but as long as you are drinking lots of water that risk is diminished significantly. But yeah, there are still conflicting opinions in the medical community about this.

That depends on whether or not your target goal is appropriate, and how much over you're going. The general guideline is that you need 0.8-1g of protein per pound of lean body mass. Are you in or around that ballpark for the day? If so, carry on. If not, you're probably fine anyway (it's unlikely that you're so much protein that you're putting yourself in danger of health problems), but it does get expensive.

Many times the people who need to watch their protein intake are those with kidney issues.

OP: how much protein are you taking in?

If you're going by the MFP default settings (which is 20% protein) then you're fine as this is actually pretty low.

What's a lot of protein for you? Sometimes I eat up to 130g, MFP has my goal as a minimum of 105g. From previous posters responses on threads like these, you just treat MFP's macro settings as minimums.

Thanks for the responses everyone! It is noon here and I've had 116g already. I do try to drink a minimum of a half gallon of water a day so hopefully my kidneys are fine :) I had a meal replacement shake for breakfast and then egg whites and flank steak for lunch. Sorry if this has already been posted before.

Consuming a lot of protein is only bad to the extent that you're not getting enough carbohydrates and fat in your diet.

Look at your nutritional values in percentages with your protein. Up to 40% of intake can be protein.

It all depends on your goal or what your trying to achieve.. For how much you said you've ate that's definitely not too much......Your guts will let you know lol when you've had too much lol
