hi all
So I'm trying to calculate my TDEE. I'm pretty much sedentary but I work out 3-4x a week with elliptical 45 mins and weights 20-25mins. I also do a Pilates video which is about 20 mins long about 4 times a week. What would my activity level be as I'm trying to maintain my weight. I'm 5' 10" and about 128.

Under activity level you enter the number of hours a week you exercise. Use it as a starting point. You may have to adjust your calories up or down a little if you lose or gain weight.

If you do that much exercise, i wouldn't have you down as Sedentary, but i used this calculator: http://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/

You aren't sedentary with doing that much activity, TDEE varies so much from person to person even with online calculators. What calories did you eat at to lose? and how much were you losing per week? if it was 1lb per week then you would increase your calories by 500 and that should be your TDEE. It takes a bit of trial and error.

I'm unsure what I was eating to lose bc I was diagnosed with an illness last year and had to change my diet which led to more weightloss that's why I'm trying to figure out my numbers now.

    Hi,

You're about 220 calories under, based on the info you provided. Your activity level is Moderate.
Your TDEE is 2173 according to the Scooby Calculator. See link below:

^^ this sounds good to me, my real TDEE is similar to that, despite being much shorter.

I like Alan Aragon's formula for TDEE...

Goal weight x (hours of exercise per week + 9.5)

    See what that gives you...

Add the hours of exercise and 9.5 and then multiply that sum by your goal weight.

I got 2175, which is pretty accurate for me (according to everything else I've seen).

I'll use myself as an example...

    Goal weight: 180lbs
Hours of Weekly Exercise: Roughly 6
    180 x (6+9.5)
    180 x 15.5
    2790

It gives me 1912, but I've been maintaining for a year at 2600. Most of my TDEE is because of my job though...not exercise hours. I think if someone were sedentary or at most lightly active outside of formal exercise, it would probably work for them.

Personally, if you have a very active job I would count that towards exercise. I know it's not purposeful exercise but still, activity is activity...

But, then it becomes a question of how many hours to count (certainly not the full 40). It either case, it's a moot point for me. When I was in a deficit, I used MFP set to active and just logged my cardio. Once I hit maintenance, I had to reset my activity level to highly active and I was still losing weight. I gave up and switched to TDEE and just used my own personal history to help me find the right number.
Lately for me I use a fitbit tracker for exercise calories and compare it to my TDEE calculations. Fitbit kinda overestimates, not too much though. Leaves me in the same ballpark...

I believe it's total daily energy expenditure. It's your BMR (base metabolic rate) + daily activities (work, walking dogs, shopping, cleaning...) + exercise. It's all the calories you spend in a day. MFP uses NEAT (BMR + Daily Activities) and then you add your exercise extra. With TDEE your exercise is already included in your daily goals.

    Yup, correct answer.
    @IvyEinstein This might help

Great formula and a very easy way to calculate TDEE. Mine came to 2,227. This is lower than what my Fitbit is saying my TDEE is by about 300, though. I probably exercise more than what I originally calculated. My Charge HR is spot on so far.
