Doubting the scale (in a good way)

When weighing yourself and seeing that you've actually lost a couple pounds, do you ever doubt it? I keep seeing these (low) numbers on the scale that I haven't seen in YEARS and I go, "nah. That can't be true. Have I actually lost five pounds??? Holy crap!" It's kinda like trying not to count your chickens before they've hatched: I don't want to really believe it just in case it might not actually be true. A reverse psychology motivation thing. Am I just neurotic or do other people also do this?

I think it's only normal to do this. When I was first starting out, I saw a 6lb drop after two weeks. Yes a lot of this was 'water weight' but I refused to let the party poopers stop me (hehe!). I was SHOCKED and hopped on and off around 4 times "Just to make sure". Be proud0

Yes, I doubt it. I've been at this long enough to know that the scale jumps around a lot and sometimes you get a low one day and are back up two more pounds the next day. BUT that doesn't mean I don't celebrate a little seeing every new low. Even if it's a flukey low, it's still one I wouldn't have seen ten pounds ago. Even if I go up the next day, I'm still in that ballpark.
Don't cheer the lows so much that a jump up is depressing. Take it all in stride.
But be pleased with every new low. I also found that ignoring flukey lows had me never celebrating anything. So, don't get to that point. Have some fun as you lose. Celebrate a little.0 -
Yeess!! I totally think the same way, lol. I usually end up weighing myself at the gym once a week just to make sure my scale isn't lying to me.0

No, I can't say I've ever done that unless perhaps it had been a while since I changed the batteries.0

"Ballpark" is a good way to look at it. Thanks!0
