I got my milk today!

I finally got my sample half-gallon of raw milk! I emailed a local farm last week asking if I could try a sample, and they told me yes. They delivered it just today. :) See, in the state where I live, you can't sell raw milk. If you want it, you either have to enter into a herd-share program or buy a cow and milk it yourself. Since the herd-share program requires a contract, a safety deposit of $50, and a monthly fee of $30 ($15 for a half-share,), I wanted to try a sample before I decided whether or not I wanted to participate.

I must say, after trying the milk, I'm definitely going to buy a share! It tastes so fresh! Plus, when I got the milk today, there was a full four inches of cream floating at the top if the half-gallon jar! The first thing I did after I got it home was to just eat a spoonful of the cream. SO GOOD.

All those people who think that unpasturized milk is going to kill them if they take a sip of it don't know what they're missing. I'm going to turn some of it into yogurt tommarrow!

Edit: On an unrelated note, I've also bought eggs from the same farm before. They cost a bit more than the eggs in the grocery store, but they had yolks the color of the setting sun. So worth the extra cost.

YES! My grandad used to get raw milk back in the day from his local farm. It also had a layer of cream on the top, best and tastiest milk ever. Those were good times. Rest in peace old fella.

I have had raw milk before, from a neighbor who was just getting into dairying. (I live in the country) and it wasnt nearly as awesome as I had heard it would be. Honestly I like the ultra-super-pasturized lactaid 2% much better.
