So, I know MFP calorie burns are usually way off, but this leaves me not knowing how to log my walk today. I did 4 miles in just under an hour, and MFP suggests over 400 calories burned. I logged as 200... does this seem more accurate?

This is exactly what I do and it has worked great for me.

When it comes to things that are easily measurable, like walking, running, or swimming, where time and distance covered can give you the calories burned for your weight, there are pretty accurate calculators out there, so just google it. IMHO it is not MFP that overestimates burns, it is more how people interpret some exercises. When there is e.g. a pace list to choose from, it is hard to make a mistake. But when things like "vigorous" or "fast" come into the exercise description, it is very easy to just log in something completely different than what you actually burned. Same when it comes to activities that are based on duration, for example two people can be in the same zumba class, one give it 100% the other not really make an effort etc.
