Just did my weigh in and bam, only lost 1.2 lbs!
5 weeks end, I had lost 37 lbs prior and now blah!

I started off at close to 440 lbs, lost like 37 lbs in 4 weeks and this week, 1.2 freaking lbs
Was 407 last week, this week 405.8

Stats:
Male
36 years old
Requested calorie intake for 2lb loss is 2560
Avg calorie intake over each week has been around 1800-1900

I only exercised twice this week instead of my usual 3 times.

I don't get it, I am ALWAYS under my calorie deficit and since I'm near my BMR my body has no choice but to lose weight.
Did my BMR decide to say "F you science"! and lower itself to say only burn 600 calories a day?!!!

I am not giving up, it's just hard to see me stay under the calorie goal and get a smack in the face :/

................................

I just took a deep breath and realized that I did lose almost 2 lbs this week and myfitnesspal did it's job.
It's just that I always have lost a ton of weight each week since I'm a big guy and I expect to lose wayyyy more than 2 lbs each week.

Just a hard pill to swallow I guess...2lbs a week loss for a guy who is trying to get under 400lbs is a hard pill to swallow today.

Well I think youre doing freakin awesome! Maybe you weighed on a high sodium day? Who knows, but you're heading in the right direction and thats what matters! You're only 6 lbs away from getting under 400! Dont let yourself get discouraged, you are going to have off weeks, long as the numbers go down in the long run, thats what matters!

Congratulations on your loss so far mate

"F you, Science!" Sorry, that was funny!

    Ahem...

    A couple things:

1.) Weight loss is not linear. That means you won't always lose according to the numbers. You may do everything right one week and lose little to nothing. Or you may do everything wrong and still lose at times. Body weight can fluctuate dramatically during the course of a single day, too.

2.) 1.2 lbs is actually a really healthy amount to lose in a week. You can't expect to keep up the pace you were. When you start at a higher weight, you can drop a little faster, but it's not that great long term.

3.) Weight loss takes time and patience. You're building new habits that you will hopefully stick with for the rest of your life. There's no time limit--it takes as long as it takes.

Thank you and yes I laughed at the "F you science"! bit myself lol

I will say I had a lot more sodium intake this week (Thanks to Subway) and I've noticed I pee'd less this week.
So I know some of it is water retention.
This week has been mostly rainy and I barely got out to exercise, so this week I'm going to "Rocky" myself and kick my own *kitten*.

I will say one thing, I am enjoying my new eating habit's and thus why I've been able to stick with it.

I know you want more, but 1.2lbs loss is still a loss - no gain and no plateau. Doing pretty good IMO

Its been 5 weeks, you will always lose more in the beginning, especially when you have a lot to lose. You won't consistently lose almost 10lb a week! I wish! This weight lost shizz would be easy!

It will slow down now, 2-3lbs a week is good, then as you lose more, 1-2lbs a week, maybe 1/2lb a week when you are near your goal.

Remember, slow is good, its sustainable, theres less saggy skin, your body adjusts better. Its all good! 1.2lb in a week is excellent! Carry on as you are!

(although, if you havent already, adjust your goal every 5lbs)
  • You are doing great. Any loss (or keeping the same) is better than gaining. You will lose less weight the closer you get to your goal. Think of it as a percentage of your weight. As you lose, less lbs is the same %. I am small and for me, one lb is almost 1% of my weight. So, what - better than gaining.

as they say - you didn't become over 400lb overnight. Don't expect it to come off healthily overnight either!

I have read MANY posts of people who regret losing too fast, as they are left with heaps of excess skin and stretch marks etc. Aiming for something conservative is probably a better idea. What about 3lb a week average or something? 7lb in a week is absolutely ridiculous and there is no way you could maintain that for very long.

this makes me happy :) keep it up !!!!!!! healthy eating is delicious and enjoyable, you can have treats but just in a balance!

And I feel you with the water retention, it is so depressing sometimes (even though my weight is a lot less than yours, we all get it and all hate it). Up your water intake and steer away from subway and especially their sauces!
