Hello. I'm going through sugar with drawl but otherwise I'm great.

Hi all. I'm 21 and in college and about 2 weeks ago I decided to start eating better and exercising more, but I decided to join MFP yesterday after hearing about it. My mom has always struggled with her weight and recently she was diagnosed with diabetes and that was what really spurred me to get my *kitten* in shape. I don't have diabetes yet but my blood sugar is really high and I know if I keep eating like I did then I'll probably have it in a few years too. I'm actually pretty surprised at myself In the past two weeks I've managed to pretty much cut all processed sugar out of my diet. My starting weight was 274 pounds and over the course of last week I was able to drop 5 pounds, bringing me down to 269. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that right now I'm on a severely restricted diet and I'm way more active than I've been in a long time. My goal is to eventually get down to about 150 which I think is supposed to be a healthy BMI for my age range and height. The only set backs I'm having so far are splitting headaches and mood swings from getting used to not eating the same amount of sugar as I did. It may last a week, a month or a year but pain always subsides.

Umm....sugar is a craving, not an addiction. It's not a drug like caffiene or nicotine. I've never heard of headaches from sugar "withdrawal." Could it be caffiene, overall low calories, or too many hours between meals that is giving you headaches? Too many hours of not eating food, gives me a headache. MAke sure to stay hydrated too.

I'm not going sugar free to lose weight because I will not be going sugar free for the rest of my life. I will need to manage sugar at maintenance the same way I am managing sugar while losing. For me portion control is key.

You're doing well - good luck to you!

Let me guess, you've cut out soda hence you're on caffeine withdrawal

I switched to unsweetened tea to help keep some caffeine but lose the sugar. I am trying a paeloish inspired diet and I feel so much better. I also eat fruit for sweet tooth and have found recipes using honey and natural sugars to make homemade snacks without being overly processed.

I'm calling it sugar withdrawal. It's not any of the other stuff and I never drank much caffeine or soda to begin with. Whatever the case it'll get better soon.
