Hi. My name is Terry and I am a woman in my 50s. My story may be a little different.
Although I've always thought I had a weight problem, I really started putting on the pounds in my 40s. I was about 40 pounds overweight when I got sick a few years ago. I was in horrible pain and lost 35 pounds in about 7 months. I was not properly diagnosed for 9 months not that it probably mattered. I went to a naturopath who treated me for leaky gut. I was on a very restricted diet. Food became my enemy causing me mind boggling pain. I even took a leave from my work for 3 months. Later I learned I have IBS and other bowel complications.
I have recovered about 80 percent. I think time has been the real cure. Unfortunately I put most of the weight back on. Well, I did make a deal with God that I'd rather have the weight back than the pain.
What I learned from my experience was that when I lost the weight I was hungry all the time. There were so many forbidden foods that would trigger the pain. When the pain abated I started eating again and poof I gained 30 pounds back.
I feel so stupid. I still have painful days but I'd rather eat sweets or chips and suffer later. Even healthy fruits and veggies can trigger a bad spell for me. If I don't get my act togethet I risk returning to that horrible period in my life.
I hope I can pick up some helpful ideas and support from this site.
Thanks for listening
