Re depression..what, you dont think mental health is affected by what you eat? I don't see why that would seem at all far fetched.

If it's not that far fetched then feel free to provide some peer reviewed studies ....

Last year I hosted a sugar-free thanksgiving and my guests loved it! Texture is right on, taste is close enough no one would suspect. It was my first try, so i'll see if I can do even better this year

Sugar-free September has been an awesome experience for me. I'm more energetic (I quit hitting snooze every morning!) and I wake up feeling happy every day! The biggest impact of quitting sugar has definitely been on my emotions. No ups and downs, I'm just consistently happy. I noticed this last year, and am now convinced that giving up sugar has something to do with it.

I've also lost 5 pounds and fit into my skinny jeans for the first time in years! Quitting sugar has made it A LOT easier to stick to my calorie goals.

Because I'm having so much success, I'm going to keep going! I looooove sweets and treats and I'm not feeling deprived, so if I can do it, you can do it!

Anyone else want to give quitting sugar a try? My motto is "progress, not perfection", so you don't even need to quit 100% and you can modify the rules to suit your needs and goals.

hmmm strange, I eat sugar and have none of those issues..

so you ate no fruit for the entire month of September, or vegetables, or bread?

What's strange about that - are you suggesting you should have identical reactions to everything as every other person?

so sugar causes depression now, is that what you are saying?

    Possibly?

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15123503

    full study..?

It's gotta be out there somewhere - ping us a link when you find it!

not my job...you made the claim, you find the full study ...

Nice try but I didn't make the claim???

You bought up depression - my comment was possibly'?'

I care neither way! if we never find out I'm not sure I will lose sleep!

My original comment was aimed at your belief that all other humans on the plant respond the same way to things as you and you seemed surprised when that isn't the case!

It must be nice to have such a two dimensional view of things!

Nope, I never connected sugar to depression, but thanks for playing.

I never said anything about humans in the plant...are you reading the same thread? What humans live on a plant???

Yep spelling mistake (I'm the plant)!

But you bought up depression - not me dude!

Let's move on from it, doesn't sound as though either of us are that interested in the outcome!

And for the record - lots of people live on plants!!!

you can keep repeating yourself but I never made that connection, I simply asked the question because you questioned my response to the OP. You then posted some random study about sugar and mental health.

Go back and very slowly read the whole thread and maybe you will figure it out.

I feel I needed to repeat myself, as you didn't understand first time what I was saying.

I have no interest in sugar and emotions. I just found it funny that you couldn't comprehend that other people had different experiences to you.

I did read the whole thread and apart from one brief mention about sugar making the op feel happy, you were the first person to type the word depression I made no claim and my comment 'possibly ?' was a response to your direct question.

Had I tabled the discussion that sugar caused depression, then you are correct it would have been my responsibility. But it wasn't my topic, it was yours.

Maybe you would like to go back 'very' slowly through the post to confirm that!

The chocolate pumpkin pie sounds good..

Check the labels but it's easy to find pre-made sugar-free pie crusts, which is what I used for that pie (busy holiday and all). Pie crust is usually just flour and butter though anyway, so that's easy enough.

I know you're focused on sugar, but those who want to reduce white flour can use an almond flour crust...I tried a pie made with almond flour, and thought it tasted better than the standard crust. Great low carb option.

Yeah, I make my own pie crust (it is a skill I've worked hard for), and I don't add sugar.

I have tried so many times to make pie crust and it always ends in failure. :'(

Ugh, bananas. Every recipe with mashed bananas to replace things promises that you can't taste them, but I always can. No clue why, but I can't stand banana in most things. I actually enjoy eating bananas and banana nut bread. I guess I'm just weird...
