Diet for Sinus Issues?

hi everybody.

I recently moved to Texas and have been experiencing the worst allergy and sinusitis problems of my life. I've had 4 sinus infections in one year. I take allergy medication, do sinus rinses, everything and it's still a major problem.

I was wondering if possibly some of the foods I've been eating could be contributing to the problem.

Anybody out there who's had a similar problem have any advice?

You might want to do research on inflammation and on candida yeast. Either can cause increased sinus issues.

Certain foods do cause an increase in mucous production and also increased inflammation.

Do you use a Neti Pot? Try it - and use it daily! I used to get at least one sinus infection a year - since I've been using my Neti Pot - it's been 7 + years - I haven't had ONE! Also - get tested to see what exactly you're allergic to - and consider getting shots. I got shots for about 2 years - they've also helped. Last bit of advice - Allegra D - the kind they keep behind the counter - AND Flonase nasal spray - use daily.

Have you been to an allergist and gotten the panel to see what you're allergic to? I've found that some "weeds" are common foods, but trigger my allergies. For example, chamomile tea made my eyes swell shut. I also had a reaction to flax supplements, but I'm not sure if it was the large quantity of flax at once (I have no issues with a little flax seeds on bread) or if it was one of the other ingredients.

Has anything in your diet changed since you moved? If not, I doubt your diet is the issue. And you will adjust over time. Everytime I go "home" where I was raised, I have tons of allergy issues that I never had when I lived there; I've adapted to where I'm at now.

Go to an allergist and you might want to see an ENT specialist too... Is your nose just clogged or do your sinus actually hurt? I'm asking because when I moved to the US 13 years ago my nose started getting clogged pretty much non stop in the Winter, neti pot and sinus rinse were useless, and eventually I went to see an ENT and found out that I had a deviated septum... has surgery (which really sucked, not gonna lie) and it hasn't been clogged once since (it's been 3 years! Why did I wait so long???).

Also, those 'breathe right' strips are a lifesaver (although they didn't do anything for me before my surgery).

@lovelymusiclady - is it possible you have a mold issue at home or at work? I was getting sick all the time and the building where I worked turned out to have a major mold issue.

Just so you know - we had some bizarre weather patterns this year. It seems everyone's having more severe allergies than normal. Even the pets are having problems.
