Temporary spike in weight after drinking alcohol?

Saturday night I went to a bar to see a show and drank quite a bit and when I weighed myself this morning I had gained 4 lbs since I weighed myself Friday morning. Two weekends ago I drank a large amount on Saturday night at get together for a friend's birthday and weighed in 6 lbs heavier on Monday but was back down to my pre-weekend weight the next day. Anybody else have the same experience with heavy weekend drinking and temporary weight gain?

Yeah, its just water retention. Typically that happens after heavy drinking. So long as you keep it within maintenance calories, it will dissapear.

I get the opposite. My weight is often lower the morning after a night out, but then swings up. It all stabilises within about 48-72 hours. Although of course, alcohol is calorific, so if your nights out weren't factored into your calorie allowance for the week, you will begin to gain weight from it (or fail to lose).

If you weigh daily, you have to be prepared to see fluctuations regardless.

I'm a daily weigher for the time-being whilst I suss out my calorie intake to lose 0.5. The idea is to weigh each morning and then after a week - add all the totals together and divide by 7 to get my average loss for that week.

You'll probably find the following day, that 'weight' will have gone. Probably water :)

Thank you for the feed back. I'm thinking it's just water weight, but both times I felt like complete crap the next day and didn't meet my exercise goals. I think next time I run into this situation I will slow my rate of drinking by drinking water every other round.
