Exercise for the workday

I have a full time desk job that I feel is hindering to my journey. Any tips for those who work long hours? I get up and walk around the building as often as I can. Other than that I find it hard to be active during that time period.

Me too. I work a desk job where I sit all day apart from short breaks.
Can you walk in your lunch break? Just change your shoes and go...
Otherwise the only other exercise I get is a class once or twice a week. Ideally I would exercise more but I am strapped for time. The class is it and I keep calories down to lose weight. The exercise helps, the calories is the most important thing for weight loss.0 -
Don't know, but i've seen a few discussions on this. Try searching for "desk exercises" or "exercises at work" in the title.
I think you might just need to do hard workouts to compensate.
Can you get a standing work station?0 -
I walk whenever I get the chance. I always take the stairs. Recently I've started walking up and down the stairs (12 floors!) at the beginning of the day and on my lunch break. I also pace around my office when I'm on the phone and so forth. Do push ups against your desk, calve raises while you're heating your lunch.0

I set the alarm half an hour earlier and get a run in before work. That's all the time it takes as is shower anyway. Gym visits take longer so that's reserved for eves and weekends. It's an eye opener how few steps us office workers get in isn't it!?0

I think a morning workout would be your best bet. Even if its just a walk/run around your neighbor hood. Save the Gym for nights and weekends.0

I used to do mornings but i couldn't hack it in the cold winter. Now i just do 45min on the treadmill in the garage between 8pm and 10pm, also walk the dog straight after work for 1hr. at weekends we usually go on a walk somewhere like Forrest trails and trekking exc.0

If you can't cram a workout in at lunchtime or before you go to work then you could always do a little bit every now and again. For instance when you nip to the loo do some a set of squats or push ups. When i'm making the tea's I'll do some dips using the counter surface (bit awkward when some comes in and I'm hanging off the counter surface but hey ho). The key to exercising more isn't just to run for half an hour or to do 20 minutes HIIT it is simply to move more when you can. As Ross Enamait is constantly saying it often takes longer to think about doing something than to just do it. It takes less than a minute to do 10 push-ups spread that out throughout the day in 10 sessions and that is 100. Little and often.0

Thank you for all of the comments! I will definitely look up the other threads. We used to have groups that did stair climbing here but a lot of people fell out of the routine. I actually forgot all about it. I can go back to doing that. My lunch break is 30 minutes. I used to say it was too short of a time to do anything effective but every minute counts. I can use it for these stair sessions
