Using phone to record steps v walking for exercise

so I keep my iPhone on me most of the day, and I allow the MFP app to pull my steps and adjust my calories based on my phone's pedometer. But what if I go for a serious walk/run? I usually bring my phone for the music/coaching and just in case of emergency. But if it's recording the steps of that workout and then I tell MFP went for a 20 minute run, my adjustments will be off. Anyone come up with a good solution?

Log your walks and runs as 1 calorie

Don't log your runs. Let the pedometer do it. It's not really that many more calories to run or walk the same distance, anyway. Or, if the pedometer app allows it, enter the run there and let it carry the calories over into MFP.
