Always Over On Sugar

My plan is set up for 1500 calories per day and 1500mg of sodium. I am totally confused about sugar vs carbs. I am almost always over on my sugar intake, but it's 90% fruit that's putting me over. My carbs are fine—in fact, I'm under most of the time. Can someone explain to me if I should be concerned with the sugar in fruits and vegetables. Is that important, or are the carbs more important—or, are neither important. Thanks for any help.

For weight loss, neither are important. The only thing that matters for weight loss is eating less calories than you burn. There are minimum amounts needed for protein and fats, but your carb level has a lot more flexibility. As far as sugars, you don't need to worry about them if you don't have a medical condition, especially if the majority of them are coming from fruits.

Thank you for the response. I appreciate the feedback. I've lost 100+ pounds so far, but have been at a plateau. I am thinking I might need to bump up my exercising to burn more calories. I'm going to take your advice and stop worrying about the sugar and carbs. Thanks again!

I agree with the advice above. Rather than worry about sugar, I pay more attention to fiber. If fiber is high, then I don't care if sugar is high since it's likely fibrous fruit.

Wow! Congratulations! That's a huge loss. I feel like I should be taking lessons from you. If you share your stats or open your diary, there might be some more info to be found that could help you break through your plateau. Sometimes, though, a plateau is just a plateau. If you stick with the calorie deficit, you'll start losing again eventually.
