Value of MFP

Just having started a couple of weeks ago, I have noticed that the tools available here really seem to encourage modified behavior wrt eating and exercising. The simplicity of tracking daily calorie intake was surprising to me, and now I understand why even when I was working out hard, the progress was being eaten up by that 1400 calorie Mexican combo food bomb that I considered "earned" by a hard workout.
So now, I find myself pre-checking menu choices and reducing portions which have helped to keep just at or below daily needs. The slow, incremental approach seems to be working, and I intend to keep it going until that 6-pack comes out of hiding.
Just some thoughts...I think I earned a beer.
