Anyone else trying the JJ Virgin Diet

Hi all, I'm a married 35yo mother to 2 young kiddos (3yo and 9mo). I just finished the JJ Virgin book and I'm excited/nervous to start the 21 day elimination challenge on July 8th. I'm looking forward to seeing if I have any food intolerences, so that I can specifically limit and eliminate anything that is contributing to my current state. In addition, I have about 100lbs to lose and I'm making an overall lifestyle change with my eating and exercise habits. I've been doing really good with eating but need to step up the exercise, and I'm hoping to start some weight training too. I'm a super active logger and highly motivated to stay on track. I'd love to have some company along the way if you'd like to add me as a friend! Thanks

I've never heard of that diet, but a word of caution. Anything of limited duration...an eating plan that is not designed to be a lifestyle....potentially does more harm than good. Specifically, will the 21 day diet teach you how to eat healthy? Will it slow down your metabolism to the point that after the 21 days when you start eating more, even just a little more, that you gain weight? What is your exit plan for the diet....what will do you do when you're finished with your 21 days to help ensure that you do not gain it back?
I can do a lot of things for 21 days that I couldn't do for a year, two years or a lifetime. If its not a plan that you could see yourself doing for a long duration, then its probably not going to work out as great as you think.
I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer, but there's a reason people gain back weight after doing a diet plan that they cannot sustain for the long haul.0 -
It is based on eliminating 7 foods that a lot of people could have an intolerence too. Here is the website if you want more details: http://thevirgindiet.com/.
It was recommended to me and I've alwasy been pretty skeptic about diets and fads, but after reading it I thought what could it hurt. If I find that I have an intolerence to a food I would rather know and eliminate it.0 -
H_Factor, I'm totally with you. It's based on eliminating 7 foods (corn, soy, gluten, etc) for 21 days and then in the second cycle, you rotate one back in at a time to see if you have any intolerences to it. Then cycle 3 is all about maintenance. I want a lifestyle change definitely not a quick fix, those never last.0

I found this old thread. I did The Virgin Diet 21 days in late June/early July. I lost 9.5 lbs. in 21 days where has I had lost just 10 lbs total in the 6 months preceeding it. I felt so good and "clean" when I did it.
Is anyone still following the plan?0
