does weightloss affect your organs?

I've been losing weight lately, which is awesome. I can tell my clothes fit looser on me but my rib cage feels weird/different. I feel like I can feel my rib cage compared to before I was losing weight when I felt not much as I do now. I don't look like skin and bones or anything but is this what weightloss is supposed to be like? Does it affect your organs or body? What's supposed to happen when you lose weight? I know nothing about what's supposed to happen to your body as you lose weight.

If you lost fat/mass that was previously covering your ribcage, you will be able to feel your ribcage more than before.

Your organs will work more efficiently due to not having to work as hard (you are lighter ). And im pretty sure were supposed to be able to feel our ribs and i might have a slight obsession with touching mone lolol

I love touching my ribs, crossing my legs, and reaching behind my back; three things I could not do when I was heavier. I also can bend over without holding my breath. My extra fat in my belly used put a lot of pressure on my organs when I bent over.

The extra weight in my belly separated my core muscles making them weak and flabby. I do core exercises now to improve that.

The extra visceral fat I was carrying around contributed to my insulin resistance, now resolved.

Now, if someone is eating below subsistence, the body will "pirate" energy stores wherever it can, even from muscles in order to serve those organs it considers critical. The liver and the brain are two; I can't remember if there are more. Anorexics may have weakened hearts as a result from this pirating. So unhealthy weight loss might have a harmful effect on the organs.
  • I can tell that I've lost lots of weight in my gut/belly and on my back and my abdominal area is flattened now. Hopefully I'm not losing weight in an unhealthy way. I am eating about 1660 calories per day to lose weight, which is higher than some people on here that are on a 1200 calorie restricted diet. Sometimes I end up eating 200 calories less but usually stay somewhere close in that calorie range.

@jenniferpiotrowski0 , you are well within the healthy range. It's the people who drop below 1,200 a day that make me nervous. I tried to describe the many ways that visceral fat interferes with our organs, which explains why we often suffer from high blood pressure and other ailments. Get rid of the fat, and a whole bunch of things start working better.
  • Oh ok well that's good. I definitely feel like I can even breathe better and get in and out of bed without feeling like a lazy blob. Lol even though I've never been obese,I have been overweight. So I've felt tired and lazy like

I get bothered touching my rib cage because I can push in between each rib and feel the stuff underneath. It hurts, so I don't do it, and get squicky putting my hand on my chest. I'm still fat elsewhere, but I have that xylophone chest thing going on. I'm quite paranoid about breaking my collarbones now that they're not protected by so much fat.

IDK about the organs, but I'd think it's like what @callsitlikeiseeit said.

I can feel more ribs than I used to, that's for sure - but it's certainly nothing to be worried about (unless of course you're quite underweight!)

  • Well hopefully its a good thing...now I'm noticing my belly needs work lol it looks slightly toned but still sticks out more than I'd like it to

I love grabbing at my ribs! I often lie on my side in bed and do so, I also poke at my hip bones. I'm still pretty big but am also large framed. I'm not particularly keen on visible bones, but grabbable ones are a good sign to me that I am shrinking.
  • Lol nice...I started to feel/poke at my hip bone once I noticed it. Before I couldn't even feel it cuz of the fat on top of it. I got mostly excited though when part of my gut fat rolls melted away! I tried to feel for my fat roll that is usually there but then I realized that there was barely anything left for me to grab onto :) so that made me happy. By the way...if anyone wants to add me on here or message me to help encourage me in losing weight feel free to do so
