Popping during workout.

Does anyone experience popping in the joints while working out? This happens on my right side whenever I do standing side crunches. Lifting my leg causes a popping feel in my hip. Should I not do the exercise? There is no pain but I'm worried I'm causing damage.

Sometimes I'll experience that when I'm doing ab type pilates floor work. No pain. I've been told it's because my hips are tight. It's noticeably less as I've gotten in better shape.

Awesome. Thanks. :) it worries me every time I work out. But I'm not consistent yet so it hasn't diminished.

You have to lift your leg for a standing side crunch?

Sometimes I get a pop in my hip flexor but I am sure to foam roll and do a dynamic warm up before I workout.

Yes I'm doing slim in 6 ramp it up and you put your hands behind your head and lift your leg and bend to it to crunch down.

Oh okay I know what you mean now. Yeah, I get a popping there. I do a lot of hip flexor stretching, foam rolling, leg circles and kicks before I squat. It at least makes me feel like I'm protecting it to a certain degree.

I pop and crunch a lot during my workouts. My PT says as long as it doesn't hurt its ok to carry on (although it feels a bit cringey!).

Sounds like snapping hip syndrome, I have it. I spend 5-10 minutes stretching my hips 4-5 days per week and foam roll a few times a week, this has helped some. The popping is fine if it doesn't hurt but I personally avoid anything that makes it happen because it gives me the creeps.

Yeah. It's creepy. I actually don't get it while I'm exercising, but if I do hip circles to warm up it pops every single time. Haven't been too worried about it.

    Yes.

In my left shoulder for OHP towards the bottom of the lift but only above 50 lbs. It hurts so I'm going to look into alternatives.

And my left hip that likes to rotate partially out of the socket if I'm not careful. That one hurts and locks up the joint so I have to reverse the motion to free it up again.

Finally my ankles. Those don't hurt, and they stop once I've run for a short distance so I doubt I doing any damage.

Basically, if it doesn't hurt you're probably fine. Might not be a bad idea to mention it to your doc at your next visit, though.

Geeze, just about every joint pops or pings during warm up. If I wasn't out of warranty I'd turn myself in for repair.

Seriously, though, I do get some popping in my knee and shoulder but they do go away after warming up.
There's also a couple lifts I won't do anymore because the popping, while it didn't hurt, was unnerving (upright rows with a barbell, should just popped and popped and popped).

That's why we keep the music loud most of the time - drowns out all the cracks and pops!

Heh, heh! Nothing like a bit of loud rock music to lose yourself in the weights.

Yeah, my shoulders makes lots of popping noises. I thought it came with age. Should I be worried? I do take joint supplements.

It happens sometimes. Like earlier I was lifting my leg up when doing weights on the ground and my knee made a popping sound. It didn't hurt afterwards.

Foam rolling is this foam cylinder like padded thing. I haven't used one but seen one in a youtube video.

My hip pops during pilates exercises too (and then makes a grinding noise). My teacher says not to worry about it as long as it doesn't hurt. I personally would not want to use a foam roller on that area because it would hurt like hell.
