Is there any food that you deprive yourself of being that your trying to lose weight? Or do you eat what you want but portion it?

There were certain types of junk food that I never really liked but would eat if they were in front of me. That stuff I cut out. Everything else I make fit into my calorie budget. Usually that means eating smaller portions for me.0

Many say that they eat what they want and can still lose weight and I do believe that to be true but I also believe that if you cut certain foods out you will lose weight much faster. For example I love this food called griot I ate it at least twice a week but it was very greasy so I cut it out completely. Things like double quarter pounders and triple stacks I cut out completely also. I stick to foods that are either high in protein or contain little to no fat such as chicken breasts, broccoli, sub's, salads, chipotle, fruits, grilled chicken sandwiches, tuna, those are pretty much what my diet consists of every since I started losing weight and in one month lost nearly 20 pounds. I also cut out sugary drinks like soda and juices and stick to mainly water. That's what worked for me at least.0

So, isn't it just the reduced calories that caused the weight loss? The foods you listed are very high calorie. Who woulda thunk that cutting out a bunch of high calorie foods would lose to weight loss.
Also, your body needs a minimum level of fats to function properly.0 -

Have you tried PB2? I read about it here on these forums and it's now part of my diet :-)

I do the portion control but watch the processed foods especially sugar, fruits are fine in the right portion and tons of raw, grilled or roasted veggies with any herbs, spices and sprinkle of olive oil. I only drink water with lemon, 1 cup of coffee in the morning and save my calories for food. I stay away from breaded anything, sauces and gravys . If I do put anything on meat I'II brush with 1tbls of BBQ, Mustard, Hot Sauce, Soy, Worcester or ketchup and cook in a grill pan or oven. I also use a food scale. Great investment. I use Pepperidge Farm low Calorie whole wheat bread. The slices are thinner but I'll pile on lettuce, tomato or whatever I have. 1 thin slice of cheese and 2 thin slices of meat. But portion control is key. Enter before you eat so you can see if you have a better option. Sometimes it's just something simple. The smarter I am the more I can eat0

Of course if you eat less calories you will lose weight, and if you eat for instance a triple stack from Wendy's which is 500 calories you can still lose weight. But if your at Wendy's and are on a weight loss journey instead of getting a triple stack why not get a grilled chicken sandwich which has 200 fewer calories and 20g more proteins. Sure you don't necessarily have to make that decision but those are the type of choices that I have been making and has been working for me. You don't necessarily have to cut certain foods out but opting for better more healthier choices is the best way to go in my opinion.

I don't think I deprive myself of anything, but there are many foods that I used to eat regularly, mostly fast food, that I avoid because I know they aren't healthy. Recently I wanted fried catfish and I got some, but I also made sure I was in my calorie goal. That's something I rarely eat, but I enjoyed it0

I eat everything and anything to portion control, that is also, luckity, my saitity level.
However I have found that my enjoyment/ tolerance of excessive sweet or fatty foods has decreased.
So what I would have chosen to eat 6 years ago is substantially different than what I choose to eat today. ( choose not restriction)
Anything including whipped cream or cheesecake is always tolerated.

I'm pretty much depriving myself of fried fast food for a while. Of course I can "fit it in" but I didn't join this site to find ways to continue eating it on a regular basis. I'd like to make healthier choices MOST days.0

I deprive myself of things like chips (fries if your US!) and indian takeaway purely because the amount of chips/takeaway I'd be 'allowed' would be basically non-existent due to the extremely high calorie content in both. I have a huge appetite so if I limit my portions of both, I'd find myself wanting.. So I tend to avoid those sort of foods. For me, they are my down fall so I stay away!
Of course, I'm a human being and I won't ban myself from my favourites, so very, very occasionally - I may indulge. But given that this is a 'lifestyle change', I'm not going to feel guilty about enjoying my food here and there!0 -
I still eat some foods that got me into trouble, but I find it easier to stick to my deficit if I mostly eat healthier foods.
I'm also doing it that way because I'm trying to manage a couple of health issues.0 -
So far on my weight loss journey of a couple of months, I've had like a couple of hangover day pizzas... And it hasn't stopped my progress! Even though it wasn't exactly portioned properly (I had the whole pizza to myself etc), I didn't feel too guilty because it's not my everyday way of eating.0

So I have a thing for nachos loaded with cheese. I get that using portion control I could still fit it in to my day, but my will power when faced with cheesy nachos sucks. So I just don't make them. I find it easier with this particular food to never have it than to have just a little of it. There are plenty of treats I still have and just fit into my daily goals (glass of wine, for example).0

I used to have a blueberry muffin or other cake/pastry most days, ate a lot of hard cheeses, ice cream and chocolate. Now I don't because I choose to use those calories on things that fill me up more. I still have a glass of wine or a gin and tonic now and again though - oh and chips, didn't I mention chips0
