    This was interesting for me.

That was interesting! I liked this: "Contrary to the WHO classification of "obese", we hold the statement that you are only "overweight".

I didn't like this so much: "Your weight target is in the right direction but very ambitious. A fast weight loss of 42 pounds could be the initial phase of a yo-yo effect."

Nowhere in the info I gave did I indicate I wanted to lose it "fast" so that was sort of presumptive on their part.

I consider BMI pretty good for most people.
I had a DEXA scan a few months ago at 208. I was surprised my lean body mass meant that if I preserved LBM, I'd be at 15% bf to get in the normal range. I'm going to try for around 11% though, so I'm fine with BMI.

Looks like all it does is try to provide a feel good bump up of the ranges.

I think its a good tool i guess but i still won't ever use it for myself because 115 to 120 even 130 i just never want to go down that low in my life to skinny even tho i am at 5,2 the lowest i would go is 140 ...

You cannot know this yet, and there is no reason to either. You are just starting. Take one step at a time. Set a goal for e.g. the winter holidays. Or next summer. One step at a time.

Whilst i know she isn't the best role model, Kim Kardashian us 5 ft 2 and at her most slender (think 2009) she was 120 pounds. I wouldnt say that was too skinny :)

Why do so many go off of that or that they should get their goal weight off of that when its a scam i hate bmi charts so much because they set you for unrealistic goals what do you think.

for my height 85KG is the high end of the healthy weight range. completely realistic in my book.

but sure you could have something unusual about your body that makes the BMI not a great fit.

But when you have 50-150 pounds to lose and have been over weight for 15 years the BMI charts seems likea useful tool to pick a goal from.

Some do say 130's but some say 120's the ones i just found on google maidenti.

you have BMI charts with different numbers? I thought it was weight x height squared or something. not room for estimates or differences

BMI charts have a range of "healthy" weights for a height, such as mine (5'2" is 104 - 136 lbs). BMI calculators will give one number based on height and weight.

yeah but 2 different bmi charts should be the same right?

The person i quoted made it sound like they found one bmi chart that gave a weight in the 120s and another was giving weights in the 130s.

maybe i misunderstood what they were saying.

I think you understood and are correct that that can't be right.

There are other "ideal weight" charts floating around, like the insurance one and the notion (popular when I was young) that ideal weight was 100+5 lb/inch for women (that one is way less forgiving than the BMI range). So who knows what she was looking at.

I've found it totally realistic and in the healthy range is not "far too skinny" by any means.

Another good rule I read was your waste should be not more than half your height, which is bang on for me as well.

Ditto. NOBODY'S waste should be more than half their height, though if it is, it earns them bragging rights.
