i just recently got back to working out after a long injury (and significant weight gain) and I have this toe that is blistering like crazy! No matter what I do, I've tried band aids, gauze, fabric toe covers. It hurts like heck and is really effecting the quality of my workout. Any help/tips??!!

updating my answer because of edit. Sounds like you need new shoes which are bigger and tying them like the poster below.

Yup, this will change your life! :P Use this in the future. It will help both with blisters on your heels and keep your entire foot from sliding around in your shoes causing other problems.
TIP: Make sure when you tighten, after making the loops (@1:35 minutes in the video), to pull the laces DOWN towards the ground so the loops disappear completely. I used to get really bad blisters and not be able to run longer distances until I found out about this trick.

When I was a kid and had a blister my Dad would thread a needle, run it thru the blister, remove needle, trim ends of thread and leave thread in the blister for a day ? Worked great.
