The other thread asking about where to get a cheesesteak in Philadelphia got me thinking...

While us Philadelphians will always argue about where/where not to go to get one in the city, we will also agree without hesitation that you simply cannot get a good cheesesteak from anywhere outside of the area.
The area I would call east to the Jersey shore, west to Harrisburg, north into the Lehigh Valley/Poconos, and south into Delaware.
Hint: if you are at a restaurant, and the menu says anything like "Philly Cheesesteak," run! They are simply called cheesesteaks. This is a form of comfort wonderful food you just can't get anywhere else in the world.

Another item perfected in these parts is the pierogie. Nope...don't try to tell me...they are just not as good anywhere else. You don't only deep fry them, they are made many ways with onions, peppers, butter....yum!

So, enlighten us MFP'ers, what do you have where you are that we cannot get?

It's after lunch in these parts, so you won't make me hungry for those undesirable lunch items. Don't worry...my food log won't suffer.

Here in Nebraska we have Runza's which are amazing! You can make them at home, but the Runza resturants make them soooo good.

You can't get it out here...I have to resort to having my mom bring some when she visits or finding a way to bring some back with me when we go there.

    what is a Runza?

It's a bread that is stuffed with meat, different seasonings, and cabbage. You can add cheese, mushrooms, just about anything. I have no idea what the bread is made with, but it's really soft.

There is nowhere else in this country that knows how to make cheese like they do here in Wisconsin.

Here in Indiana we specialize in breaded tenderloins and sugar cream pie, which explains a few statistics.
ETA: and wow, I guess we love beige.
