Some real science mixed with a whole lot of "bro-science." He's right, for the most part, about eggs but that doesn't make them a "fat burning food." Fat burning foods. Hmmph. Hogwash.

    Really! Is it hogwash?!

Can you share with us why it is hogwash, I need to know because I believed him!

The only thing that burns fat is being in a deficit. I could either gain fat or lose fat with all of those foods depending on my goals. As soon as he said the cholesterol in eggs is good cholesterol I knew he was just repeating the latest journalistic take on eggs........cholesterol is just cholesterol, it isn't either good or bad and this has been known for many many decades.

Eggs and losing belly fat? Hows about no...

Want to really burn fat? Eat at a calorie deficit. If you eat any of those five foods to the point of being in a calorie surplus, you can gain fat (if that's your thing).

"sugar stores belly fat" - what a load of CRAP!

No food burns fat. Thermogenic effect is minimal. We don't burn more calories than we chew when we eat celery. Grapefruit does not break up cellulite. Etc.

But more specifically for these 5 foods and the video:

    Food #1:
Berries are a pretty good food, full of fiber and vitamins. They do not burn fat. There are some studies that correlate increased berry consumption with weight loss however more recent endocrine research indicates that fructose plays an important role in high triglycerides and liver disease. Eating a lot of berries will not, of itself, burn fat but you may lose weight as you replace higher calorie foods with berries.

    Food #2:
Nuts again are good for some of the reasons stated in the video however the idea that there is NO insulin response to nuts is just plain wrong. Nuts all have carbohydrates. Insulin responds to almost everything we eat. Yes, the glycemic index of nuts is favorable and the types of fats in nuts are probably better for us than other fats but in no way does nut consumption "burn fat."

    Food #3:
Oatmeal is high in fiber. Because of that, it may help in weight loss because it makes you feel full. The fiber in oatmeal is important for keeping your digestion moving and for colon health. But, as the Livestrong site says about oatmeal, "No food burns fat -- not even low-calorie, heart-healthy oatmeal."

    Food #4:
Red meat is a mixed bag. It is true that grass-fed beef is likely to have more omega 3 fatty acids than feed lot beef. But fat content has more to do with which cuts are chosen, e.g. round is leaner than a well-marbled steak. There is some research that those who eat red meat tend to be heavier than those who do not but the research is not consistent. Very recent research out of Harvard indicates that those who increase their consumption of red meat also increase their likelihood of developing Diabetes II than those whose consumption stays the same or reduces. Consuming red meat may satisfy your appetite and therefore reduce the amount of other things you eat but it in no way burns fat.

    Food #5:
Eggs used to get a bad rap because of their high cholesterol. Recent research, however, indicates that the amount of food-based cholesterol is not strongly related to our development of cholesterol in our own bodies. It also is becoming apparent that cholesterol levels may not be as directly related to coronary disease as once thought -- the jury's still out on that one. So, yes, eggs are a decent source of proteins and fat that may be included in a healthy diet, but do they "Burn fat?" Nope.

So, bro-science. Or as the cartalk guys say, "Bo-O-O-O-gus!"

There is no magic food, pill, shake, herb or powder that will "burn fat." Activity burns fat including the activities our bodies undertake to simply exist, e.g. breathing.

To point out, especially in regards to your word phrasing- you can't spot reduce with exercise or food. :flowerforyou/

    Now for another issue:
Here's how to lose belly fat fast

Our fat comes basically in two types, subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. Subcutaneous fat is under the skin and has few health risks except when it's heavy weight causes other problems, e.g. extra load on joints, heart, etc. Visceral fat is the fat in and around organs. This is the stuff that is so closely associated with health problems like coronary artery disease, type II diabetes, etc.

Your belly fat may be either subcutaneous of visceral. The most recent research on visceral fat so far has identified only one way to reduce it once you have it: regular aerobic exercise, specifically 30 minutes daily. Visceral fats are made by digestion of sugars in the liver. Different sugars are digestible by different ranges of organs. Sadly fructose is only digestible in the liver and therefore can result in more visceral fat deposits than other things.

The simple answer is, there is no simple answer. Yes, limiting calorie intake to less than calories expended results in weight loss but contrary to the meme, a calorie not a calorie. Fructose and alcohol hit our livers in similar ways. Calories from fructose are more likely to the stored in the body as fat, especially visceral fat, than other calories.

    The science continues to develop.

Context and dosage. Fructose is fine, so is alcohol when consumed in moderation. If you can show a study where there's not abnormally high intakes of fructose and health related problems I would be interested.

This a joke right? Caloric deficit with proper macros burns fat, not berries.

All of those foods are fine to eat.. they don't burn fat as others mentioned.. but people avoid some of those as he said because they think they are bad for you.. and the whole organic only mumbo jumbo was enough to have him be a paid spokesman
