Sick and losing too fast

I had an extremely busy weekend and didn't eat like I should. Once a day, later in the evening. Then yesterday I got sick and haven't been able to eat much. I love watching the scale go down but I don't want to lose weight that way, an am sure it will come right back on when I get to eat again. Is there some kind of supplement I can take in the meantime to make sure I am nourished AND help me not yoyo this next week? I am currently down 20lbs 216.5 to 196.5) in the past month, 5 of which since Friday though :(

@pepsicolaho is it possible for you to visit a medical clinic? At that rate you would be down 100 pounds by the end of 2015.

I had the same issue. I've had severe allergies for a month and this past week it was hard to consume 500 calories a day. I lost 4.6 lbs in 9 days...it was hard to get back on track but I'm back to eating my normal amount of calories and I don't think I've gained it all back....haven't checked but I would make sure you take vitamins.

I think if you're legitimately SICK its fine. I love when i get sick just for that reason LOLOLOL BUT if its a longer term thing than a week or so, i would go see a doc or bump up calories with nuts or peanut butter or anything calorie dense that will help you reach a higher number without actually eating a lot......

Gale I assume when I get the bulk of the fat off I will surely lose at a much slower rate. I think it's coming off faster because it's such a drastic change. I went from eating an insanely bad diet (I'd consume 1500 calories in Pepsi alone, then junk food all the time, probably a 3500-4000 calorie a day diet) and doing no exercise at all, to eating only foods that nourish your body, a hell of a lot less calories, and actually getting up and doing something. I'm sure my body will soon adjust to this new regime.
  • if it comes right back on it was just water weight to begin with. You don't have to worry about gaining fat just because one week you lost fat "too quickly". So long as you eat in a caloric deficit you won't gain fat.

There is also not a thing wrong with eating once a day later in the evening if that is when you like to eat (presumably you get your nutrients and calories in). Unless eating that way sets you up to get off track, that kind of timing in and of itself won't make you gain weight.

If you are worried about getting enough calories in while you are sick find small volume calorie dense things, like nuts/peanut butter. 100 calories of that is an insanely small volume. (but weigh it! Don't go by volume to calculate calories, of course). Juice of course too I'd imagine (which of course you can calculate by volume).

Last Friday I weighed in at 215. This morning I weighed in at 202. The beginnings of the loss process when one has this much to lose can make for some wonky numbers for sure (especially when it times up with hormonal fluctuations in a certain way). Just weigh your food and keep it to something sustainable and reasonable for you for most days and you'll be fine.

Make sure you stay hydrated. My go to when I am sick is broth. It helps to re hydrate and has salt to keep your electrolytes in balance. Hope you feel better soon.
