Log log log log log... I can't stress it enough. Here was my recipe.

    1) Logged EVERYTHING, even my vitamins
    2) 1,500 calories every day
    3) Only drank water, 1 zero cal energy drink/day, no soda at all (not even diet), tea, coffee
    4) No alcohol... and trust me, I LOVE alcohol
    5) No cheese, ranch dressing, milk, mayo, etc. Used almond milk for my shredded wheat cereal
    6) Walk at least 2 miles every day - running is bad until you're fit and have a good reason to (sports, etc.)

With that I went from 260 to 190 in about 4 months (I logged my weight weekly too).
    THAT'S NOT FAIR!

No, it's not. I'm a guy that actually has a high metabolism, so it's really sad I got as big as I did. I totally get that this is significantly harder for women and that sucks. It can still be done, and I see posts of it being done EVERY day. Make a plan, stick to it like a cheetah going after a deer, and don't quit till you're there.

On the flip side of the guy vs. girl thing. Girls look significantly hotter with like every 5lbs lost. Guys... don't. Then once you get down to weight, a scrawny guy looks just about as bad as a fat guy just in a different way. So then guys have to build their weight back up with muscle and for a guy like me THAT's what takes time. I'm 4 months into semi-serious lifting and it'll be at least another 8 until I'm reasonably happy with how I look.

I'm not looking to start some debate over guys v. girls, etc. Just trying to give you motivation with that last comment.

edit: oh, and one more thing. I personally think that eating back your exercise calories is crap. I don't believe that 1 can of soda - 1 hour of running = 0 calories. I never compensated for eating bad with more exercise.
