Walking

I do a lot of walking at a reasonable pace approx 3 or 4 miles an hour. Can anyone tell me approximately how many calories that burns up please. I've had to delete map my walk on my phone as it causes it to crash

Depends on your weight/height among a few other factors. There is a tool on MFP for entering exercise and it will estimate calories for you as well as a wealth of tools you can google to do it.

MET https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metabolic_equivalent gives you something to estimate with; or just use the MFP calculator; or try both and use the lowest.

Here's an on-line calculator to play with, just type your values into the fields:

    Here's the compendium of values:
    https://sites.google.com/site/compendiumofphysicalactivities/Activity-Categories
Definition of Terms used in the Compendium
MET (Metabolic Equivalent): The ratio of the work metabolic rate to the resting metabolic rate. One MET is defined as 1 kcal/kg/hour and is roughly equivalent to the energy cost of sitting quietly.

Walking 3.5 miles per hour (for exercise) has a MET value of 4.3; for a 180 pound person that would around 350 calories per hour.

    81.6 kg (180 pounds) * 4.3 MET * 1 hour = 359

If you search MFP's database 10.5 minutes/km is roughly the same pace and at 180 pounds MFP suggests 310 calories for 1 hour walking.

I under-report walking calories, if I even bother to log them at all. I'd be likely to log 250.
