I am a mother of 2 fantastic boys that are energetic and athletic. I however am neither. I have let myself get to almost 200 pounds and I need someone to help me when I get off track. I am sooo hoping that this will help me. I have tried Weight Watchers, slim fast, Atkins, you name it I've probably tried it. If you are old enough to remember the weeble wobbles as a child well that is what I look like and I am tired of looking this way.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me on this journey.

Thanks soo much for reading and considering helping me. I know I have to make the changes but I need a little help along the way.

Thanks,

Jakemattmom

    Hi! My name is Luki.
The first step is to get to the gym or a track to go to a gym sign up for some prop personal training if you can't go to a gym get to a track or anywhere for walking and immediately start walking

If you have athletic kids, does that mean you are taking them to practices and games? When you're there, start walking around the field rather than just hanging out chatting with the other parents -- I'll bet someone will join you. Three turns around the field for every practice and game (during warmups, perhaps) will help.

Also, and this is really hard -- you do not have to finish what's on your kid's plate. You don't have to have a snack every time they do (or if you do, make it a fruit or vegetable rather than that cookie). You don't have to eat what they eat. And... it won't even hurt if the whole family starts eating a little more healthfully.

If you cook a lot of junky food "because the kids will eat it," start cooking the healthy things that you want -- to quote Mark Bittman -> Eat real food. Mostly plants.

Your kids might whine for a while, but they'll get used to it (and even come to like it).

Good luck -- keep moving and eat well.

A: be careful about signing up for a personal trainer at a gym. Those trainers are (usually) the worst and have very, very little training besides whatever tools their employer gives them for orientation when they first start. If you do go with a trainer, look for one who is a dietician (not a "nutritionist" - those are two separate things) and make sure to do research on how much experience they've had while physically training people. (I have yet to go wrong with any trainer who has sports medicine course work and clinical experience. They know how to work with various medical issues as well.)

B: Health begins in the gym, but weight loss begins in the kitchen. CI/CO (making sure your calories in are fewer than what calories you're burning) is how you lose weight. But there are many, many different ways people can do this. Personally, I figured out my total daily energy expenditure (calories I burn per day) and set my calorie intake to 500 calories below that. You can figure this out by using My Fitness Pal's tools.

    Hi.

You can add me if you like.

I agree with what ManiacaLaugh has stated. In addition, find a physical activity that you like and start doing it (walking, treadmill, etc.). More often than not, if you like the activity you will stick with it. Then move on to a different activity. The food intake can be the biggest struggle for some of us. Get a food scale and weigh everything!!!! Log it into MFP! If you prepare recipes you can log all the ingredients and enter the number of servings to get the right amount of calories.

Lots of information on here that can really make you "rethink" what you are doing. Sticking with the basics to start...is a good start.

Don't be stressed and think everything has to happen today or tomorrow...it will happen if you put in the work.

    All the best,
    Wanda

    Welcome!!!
I also have two kids, ages 6 and 8, and I started on this journey mainly to keep up with them also.

Yup - old enough to know weeble wobbles too.

Step one... be determined to make the change, and you are here. Complete!
Write Down WHY you want this. Not just "to keep up with the kids" Keep digging deeper. What would that mean to you? How will you FEEL when you get to where you want to be. When you're truly pulling in your Feelings, you'll get there! Then Write down This feeling!

When down? Read what you wrote. remember the why's.

Now its time to tackle nutrition. We normally jump right to working out but what good is that if you're eating junk 24x7?
Depending on your personality, jump all in or change slowly, do that. Changing out foods.

Shop the permimiter of the grocery store. Those boxed foods are not needed! some occassional things, sure, but not daily! Fresh fruits, veggies, proteins.

Next... what do you like to do to get moving and what do you Hate??? Don't do the hate!
Find what works for you? Walking is an excellent place to start.
Put it on your Calender WHEN you will do this.
Make that appt with yourself and KEEP IT. Its as important as anything else.

    Keep Going!

Most do great for about 2 weeks. then "it hits"... The "This isn't fun and I haven't lost all the weight yet, I can skip just today"..... then it stops. Don't Stop! Push Through! You Can!!!!!

    :)

Feel free to add me I have a lot more to lose than you always looking for friends. I have been eating a clean diet with higher fat content, also just bought fitbit flex and trying to add movement so I can lose weight. Good luck. :)

I'm just starting out too. I have 3 kids and I believe they have more energy than I ever did...even when I was their age. I would love to encourage each other along the way. I'm looking for folks to help keep me accountable.
    Good luck to you!
