Does eating back calories only apply to people who want to gain weight?

The whole point i exercise is to burn more calories so then what would be the point in eating them back?

The point would be to fuel your body and maintain your goal deficit.

Eating back some or all of your exercise calories allows you to eat more food and still stay within your deficit goal.

    Edit;
A quick look at your diary tells me that you probably aren't eating enough even without exercise. Typically the minimum recommendation for a female is 1,200 kcal per day and 1,500 kcal for a male.

    Fixed it for you.

MFP gives you a deficit with zero exercise included. Some people can't/won't exercise. DeguelloTex is right....fuel your body, so you can maintain existing lean muscle & lose a larger percentage of fat.

I could approach your question from the other end: if i lose weight faster by not eating, then i should just stop eating. What's the point of eating if I'm just going to gain weight?

Do you believe people who are physically active and have healthy, muscular physiques can maintain those physiques by eating 1/3 of the calories needed to fuel their daily activity? If you're physically active, you need to properly fuel yourself. If you're eating more calories than you're burning, your body will reserve the extra energy as fat.

You can totally lose weight faster by restricting your intake further. Whether it's sustainable to do this and if you prefer losing weight by catabolizing more muscle than fat storage is a different story

you're right i don't eat enough but i find this works for me and i can maintain eating this amount of calories for long periods the only reason i'm doing it is because i want to hit my goals fast then i will raise my calories gradually.

I eat up to 1000kal a day. work an office job. walk for 1 to 1.5 hours a day. run for 30 minutes 5 days a week on an incline

Slight correction. It gives you a deficit with zero exercise included, if you do not tell it you're going to exercise X times per week, for Y minutes.

Well, you'll have to see for yourself If eating more will interfere with getting your goal as fast as you say. It sounds like you're already set on a plan

You are most likely going to trash your muscles and lose more of them than you would like. You will look exactly the same as you do now (body fat percentage) just a bit smaller. We see it here a lot. Exercise for fitness and health, but you need to eat enough to protect your muscles (your heart is also a muscle) and to fuel your body. Chronic under eating can lead to hair loss, muscle wastage, fatigue, dizziness, etc. You may feel fine now, but at some point it will likely catch up to you. Unless you are following a doctor supervised program (you may still have these issues, but hopefully being monitored for some of the more severe consequences). Best of luck.

I don't understand this attitude. It's not healthy to eat so little. What's your goal? To lose weight so you're healthier? You won't be healthier if you're malnourished. To lose weight to look better? You may not look better if you lose weight so quickly you lose too much lean muscle mass.

The benefit to eating calorie back is this...........you want to eat just enough to lose mostly fat. You want to eat enough to keep your workouts strong. Healthy weight loss is reducing your body fat %.

MFP already gave you a deficit based upon your stated activity level. You logged exercise for an added deficit. This helps you lose "weight" faster. BUT unfortunately all weight lost is not fat.

    2 problems...........
    1. Your entire workout regimen appears to be cardio. To help your body keep more lean muscle you want to: a. strength train b. eat enough calories overall and c. eat enough protein.

    2. (Most importantly) You are eating less than MFP recommends for a woman. There are minimum nutritional guidelines, you are not meeting them. The problem with eating too little over long periods.....your body uses calories 24/7 (heart, lungs, kidneys, etc). When your body doesn't have enough fuel.....it makes choices. Your body will fuel your heart muscle before fueling a full head of hair. Having hair on your head just isn't a priority.

Being thin and dead is not a good thing unless the goal is to be a thin corpse. You need enough food to fuel the basic functions of your body to prevent permanent damage. You could stay in bed 24/7 and lose weight on your calorie goal.

Undernourishment causes PERMANENT damage to your body and you only have the one body which must last the rest of your life.
