the human species has subsided on a high carbohydrate diet for almost all of time.
The only problem is that food availability is markedly different than it has been for the majority of our evolution. Before, there would be times of famine so those that held onto their fat stores or built them the most quickly (especially from cheap carbs) would have an evolutionary advantage because they'd be better equipped to survive the times of famine.
Now, however, it's markedly different, at least in places like the US. Food is plentiful, all the time. So, what was once an advantage is a disadvantage resulting in higher levels of obesity, diabetes, etc. What was once a blessing is a curse in times of perpetual plenty (which has really only happened recently for most of the population in modern times).

The only reason to cut carbs is if you have a doctor diagnosed reason for doing so. Carbs are not evil. They don't carry around pitchforks that stab your insides to hold onto fat. I haven't cut any carbs and lost 48 lbs. Now, my husband has T2 diabetes, so he has to eat less carbs, but that's the only reason. Otherwise, he'd never have cut his!
TL;DR: If your doctor tells you that you have a medical reason that you need to lower or cut out carbs, listen to them. Otherwise, you're fine. Just eat less of EVERYTHING to lose weight and you'll succeed.
There's always personal preference, and preserving future health.
Personal preference is fine, what I have issue with is the people that INSIST that lowering carbs is the ONLY real reason that people can lose weight or add muscle or insert-health-benefit-here. Unless you have a medical issue (and the number of people who actually do have a medical issue is not that many), carbs aren't a problem. Ok, well, unless ALL your carbs come from cake, but then your issues have nothing to do with carbs themselves. XD
Lowering carbs is not a weight loss diet, in my opinion. It's a way of eating that many find is healthier for them.
If I had eaten low carb 10 years ago, I sincerely doubt I would be prediabetic today. It has also helped my arthritis and autoimmune issues. It can preserve health.cwolfman13 wrote: »The only reason to cut carbs is if you have a doctor diagnosed reason for doing so. Carbs are not evil. so if you eat carbs, you're not preserving your future health? carbs the devil right...gonna kill ya?
if you truly don't believe carbs are the devil then you wouldn't suggest carbs being a detriment to future health...
ironically, some of the healthiest diets include plenty of carbs...like, IDK...the Mediterranean diet which is basically the blue print for the way I eat...but I guess that's putting my future health at risk?
Carbs have not helped my health, and I believe I am much better off without them. As I said earlier, my arthritis pain is greatly improved as are my autoimmune issues, and I strongly doubt I would have become prediabetic if I had been eating low carb since eating this way has reversed this disease for me.
People like to bring up "unless you have a medical diagnosis, there is no need to eat that way". Well, what about before prediabetes or diabetes is diagnosed? That can take years to spot, or prediabetes could progress to diabetes before anyone has a clue. Eating low carb would help those people.
And yes, there are some perfectly healthy people out there who do not need a low carb diet. I'm not refuting that.
also, you bring up the devil so often. Too often... I think you should let that go already, it really isn't very funny.0
