DOMS is not a good indication of whether you did a good work out.

If you're circuit training then measure your fitness by increasing reps or quicker completion time, not how sore you are the next day.

    This.

I actually started eating more protein(bar or shake) post workout and stopped getting DOMS and assumed I wasn't working out 'hard enough' anymore but I was still making improvements, so DOMS are definitely not an indicator of a good workout.

If you kicked butt, and you felt you kicked butt, then you kicked butt. Take the lack of DOMS as a sign that you should kick butt even harder the next time or challenge yourself with something new!

I wouldnt have thoight of Doms and would have rearded circuit training as more cardio. Being pushed hard there could either be from looking at your hrm to see you were at the higher end of your range or perceived exertion of breathlessness.

You do not have to feel that burn and sicomfort to have a good workout, but if you experience it for prolonged periods of time, then you will know you have exerted yourself at your limit. Match that up with time take/ circuits covered.
