I believe you have to get so many steps for it to start adding calories. It already accounts for some of your steps in your activity level. If your set to a higher activity level it is going to take a lot more steps to see an adjustment than it would if you were set to say Sedentary.

If you carry your phone with you all day, you might be able to download the Fitbit app and use your phone as the tracker (the Fitbit app does have that option with some phones). Then if you sync the app to MFP, you should get an adjustment in your diary that you can tap to see why you are getting no adjustment or why your adjustment is the amount that it is.

If you just use a normal step tracking app, it won't usually sync with MFP. As shadow2soul mentioned, Fitbit does have a tracker app that works with certain phones, and using that particular app will get you calories for your steps. Otherwise, yes, you would need to log it as walking. :)

If you're using the MFP step tracker, do not log any step-based activity. That would be "double dipping."
