How did I gain 2 lbs in less than a week?

I weighed myself at about noon on Sunday and was 121 pounds exactly. I kinda over ate the next couple days because I went to a party and a potluck and had about 2500 calories (healthy stuff though...I steered clear of the bad stuff) two days in a row but then I went right back to eating how I normally do with lots of fruits and veggies and protein. I weighed myself tonight at 8 pm before I went off to the gym and I weighed 123. Is it possible I actually gained 2 pounds of fat in just 5 days or is it just normal fluctuation? I've heard different things like water weight, gaining muscle, or high sodium intake but I definitely didn't intake a lot of sodium at all this past week. I never have a lot of sodium, in fact. So what's the deal? I know 2 lbs is nothing but it still makes me nervous thinking I may gain weight that easily.

Weigh at the same time of day in the same state of dress for more accuracy. Weight fluctuates a lot from morning to night. It doesn't matter what you eat, you'd need to eat 7,000 calories over maintenance to gain 2 lbs of fat.

It probably really is just water or "unspent" waste. I get different scale readings depending on the time of day, never mind over a period of days.

  • At that weight I'd go by your measurements...do your chest/waist/hips and watch those for changes.

Weight can fluctuate up to 5 pounds in a DAY, so don't bank on that number.

You weighed yourself at different times of the day - I assume you ate food, and would not have eaten exactly the same thing.

In any event, water weight fluctuates more than that much of the time.
