150g of freaking chicken

So I started my new plan today and I'd scheduled to have 150g of chicken to meet my daily requirements!! I underestimated the amount of chicken.. I'm stuffed!!
Is 150g a good portion of protein to have?? Also, the calories are so varied on chicken breasts... mine says 150g is 156 calories. The chicken was flame grilled with seasoning (salt) does this sound accurate??
Thanks guys

That's actually not a lot... 150 grams = just about 5.3 ounces, or smaller than the average fist.
Nevertheless, who says you have to eat chicken every day? Protein can come from a multitude of food sources.
Tips for logging: Try to always input food by using the barcode scanner on your app + a digital scale to double check the weight. And be consistent; I always log meat in its raw state, not cooked.0 -
150g of chicken isn't much.
Whenever I have chicken, I usually hit about 230g of it.That's actually not a lot... 150 grams = just about 5.3 ounces, or smaller than the average fist.

I'd say it was probably a Lil more than 2 breasts.. but I weighed it after cooking....
Maybe it will just take some getting used to... I enjoyed it as I had it with avo... just took me by surprise how much food it was for supposedly so little calories0 -
Definitely weigh it raw if you can, but if you're not the one cooking and you need to estimate, find a cooked entry.0

If you weigh after cooking you need to take an entry that is for after cooking, the food loses weight when you cook it, leading to more calories per gram. The 156 for 150 g was definitely for raw weight.0 -

This.
Also, you should try to use the standard USDA entries (they look like: "chicken, broilers or fryers, breast, meat only (or meat and skin), cooked, roasted (or raw, etc.)).
150 g wouldn't be anywhere near 2 breasts. (If you are using skinless, boneless tenders it could be a couple of those, and same with any other precut breasts.)
If you add anything (like oil) you would want to add that separately. If you are dealing with premade breasts you bought somewhere try to get the calorie info or estimate the cooking method (like if any oil or butter was added).
Skinless chicken breast is pretty low calorie (I usually think the added calories for cooking it bone-in and with skin are worth it, though).0 -
I eat Rotisserie chicken from Costco for lunch on a regular basis. It's about 212 calories for 150 grams. Yes, it's a LOT especially for a shorty like my (only 5 feet tall). I have now decreased my portion to 140 grams. Easy +35 grams of protein!0

wait the whole chicken? or just the breast? b/c the whole bird is going to be WAY more than 200 calories.
although- rotisserie chickesn are nommy.0 -

Haha I meant I eat ~140-150 grams of Rotisserie Chicken per day. One chicken will last about 4-5 days.
At best, I could eat only HALF a Costco size Rotisserie chicken in one sitting. And only if I was really REALLY hungry. On second thought, maybe not even half. HAHA
My favorite rotisserie chicken is from Sprouts but its super fatty ...sooo good.

My lunch in front of me has 170 grams of chicken- There is no way this is close to two breasts, not even close to one. And it's not *that* much for my petite self.
What other sources of protein are you eating on this plan?0 -

I put 150g of chicken in my salads and I don't think it's ever been a whole breast.0 -
It's tough to find the right amount of calories for COOKED boneless chicken breast actually... I could only find the info for roasted chicken breast on the USDA website, and it's off what the packages of chicken breasts I buy put on the package (110-120 calories for 85g cooked, typically... USDA says 140 calories and more fat).
So yeah, raw is usually more accurate, but again, I trim all the fat when I buy chicken breasts, so it probably accounts for the difference... so it's probably the only time where I don't use the USDA data for cooked (unless I roast a whole chicken, obviously).
But anyway, I had 146g of cooked chicken breast at lunch (it would probably be around 180g raw? maybe more) and it wasn't that much, IMO. It was a little over half a breast (granted, it was a pretty large bread). And I would definitely not be stuffed after that, unless I had a lot of veggies with it (which I did). Oh and mine turned out about 200 calories for 146g cooked, using the Perdue nutrition info... I know I've bought some frozen chicken at Wegmans that was supposedly 150 calories for 140g or something though... so yeah it varies a lot.KimmydeJong wrote: »I eat Rotisserie chicken from Costco for lunch on a regular basis. That's kinda odd though, because most rotisserie chickens are 230 calories for 150 grams, but obviously it will depend on if you're eating the leg, thigh, or breast too. I'm having roasted chicken legs tonight and will just log it as 'dark meat cooked'.0 -

I mis read anyway- but yeah LOL that sounds better!!
Really? I can easily eat almost a whole one- I always make plans to buy the chicken and save it for salad or lunch meat- and all I'm left with are the wings and little bits- I can at most get 3 meals out of it. It's pathetic LOL0 -

kills some taste, but those things lose A LOT of calories by removing the skin.

Actually makes a lot of sense... The whole pack was about 550g with about 5 breasts(raw)... so I probably underestimated... so I prob ate just over 200g then I think..
Thanks guys... learnt something new about it being measured raw!0 -

I don't eat the skin and try to stick with the chicken breast. The hubby gets the scraps. Haha
