TDEE/BMR Help?

Hi everyone,

So I've seen some posts about TDEE, BMR etc and I worked mine out (BMR - 1708.3, TDEE - 2342).

From what I've read, I'm supposed to eat between those 2 numbers right? or 20-30% below the TDEE number? According to Google, 20% of 2342 is 468 so am I meant to eat 1874 calories per day? That seems like ALOT =/

I'm 5ft and 200 pounds, so obese according to BMI calculators, and when I tried the 1200 calories that the MFP app suggested, it seemed like I was having to eat loads to get up to that number.

Any help would be appreciated, as I'm super confuzzled right now.

Thanks for reading :)

You've come to the right place to get confused !

If your TDEE is 2342 then eating less than that will lead to weight loss. Within reason a bigger deficit will mean a faster loss, at least initially and more so if you're obese.

There is a cult here that says don't eat below your BMR, but it is a cult so I'll leave you to decide.

Personally I doubt your TDEE is that high and I would start with eating 1400 calories a day and see what happens in 4 weeks. You will be able to judge what your true TDEE is from the rate at which you lose. 1 lb/week means you're about 500 cals a day below TDEE.

If you got to 200 pounds you were capable of eating or drinking well in excess of your TDEE, so with a bit of reflection I'm sure you can eat 1400.
