Morning vs evening workout

I'm back to working out. I've finally managed to carve out a time first thing in the morning at 5a.m. It is easier for me to stay consistent because when I come home from work, I never quite know what I'm coming home to family wise. I like doing the DDP Yoga work outs, but have noticed my calorie burn (per my HRM) is significantly less in the morning than if I work out after dinner. Is it because my heartrate is starting lower because I just woke up or something else?

I'm not sure why, but you should workout when it fits your schedule best. Over time you'll burn more calories in the workout you're doing than the workout you're missing because something else came up... :-)

I know my morning runs are significantly easier for me than my afternoon/evening ones. I've never paid attention to my hrm to see if there was a big difference in my calorie burn, though.

Your body isn't all that warmed up that early, and yeah, it's 5AM. lol However, I am usually working out at about 6AM and it's pretty consistent when I use an HRM, whether it's early or later. One thing I notice is now that I'm in good shape, I burn less calories per activity no matter what because my heart rate just doesn't get that high and I recover very fast.
