Walking orvtreadmill

Hi, I have only started 1 week ago and enjoying it so far Watching what I can eat and stop when reached my goal. Was wondering how it is if I walked at 5.00mph I would burn 368 calories and if I done same on my treadmill I only burn 179 why is that, confused lol.

I don't trust the machines for my calorie burn. I wear a heart rate monitor chest strap and I find it a lot more accurate. I'd look into something like that.0

The fastest I walk at a sustained rate is 3.5-4mph.
As for why, the answer is you are using different things to calculate calorie burn. If you walk the same speed on level ground as on a level treadmill, then you will burn about the same calories. The only real difference is wind resistance. Of course, where do you find 5 miles of level ground with no curves?0 -

Sorry, no, If you are staying still and the treadmill is moving, that is the equivalent of walking over a stationary surface with no wind resistance. The physics work out the same, all you have to do is move the frame of reference.
You get the same workout by running in a giant tractor trailer moving 65mph down the highway. Or by running in a long high speed train doing 150mph down the tracks, or by walking on a treadmill moving 3mph (ignoring the bumpy ride and any swaying).0 -
