Is anyone doing the Cambridge Diet?

Hi I started the Cambridge Diet 2 wks ago and week 1 I lost 6lb and week 2 went a bit wrong due to family events etc.
If anyone else doing it wants to be motivation for eachother then it would be great to go through it together :-)

My mum did the cambridge diet for quite a while and lost a LOT of weight. She put on weight + an extra few stone once her solids were re-introduced. For those who don't know - this is a soup/shake diet. Very low calorie but promises to pack in all your needed nutrients and vitamins in to those 3 shakes/soups.. Personally, I think this method of losing weight is so unbelievably unsustainable. They claim to re-introduce you to solid food gradually and slowly after a while but there is no way this is realistic.

I wish you luck with it. Putting my views of this diet to one side, you have a goal and I'd love you to reach it so you feel that pride and sense of accomplishment. But please know that if this doesn't work out for you - there are other more sustainable approaches to weight loss which will keep you full, content and still losing weight.

    Best of luck.

Thank you Pink for replying, I know not everyone thinks that this diet is a good idea, I haven't started on the really low calorie step as I only have just under a stone and a half to get off and due to being active in my job I had to go a few steps higher which is step 2 (810 calories a day)
I really appreciate your input and thanks again for replying

You're consuming 810 calories per day?

810 calories a day and you only have a stone or so to lose?! Yikes!

I know someone who has done it several times. The fact she's done it so much should tell you how sustainable it is. She'd do it before a holiday then pile it all straight back on with a little extra.

I wish you luck but I don't advocate this in any way at all. Especially as it's not medically supervised (I know you'll say it's supervised but you never see an actual doctor or have any tests done to check any meaningful health indicators).

It's against MFP guidelines to promote very low calorie diets (VLCD)..........the lowest number MFP gives for nutritional purposes is 1200 (before exercise).

Fast weight loss often leads to a larger percentage of lean muscle loss than most people are comfortable with. I want a lower body fat percentage so VLCD's aren't for me. Google skinny-fat, only the scale looks good.

    Dangerously low :(
Please consider stopping this and eating at a sensible deficit instead. You'll still lose weight (I ASSURE YOU!) but you won't be putting your health at such a risk. I have only 11lbs left to lose - but I eat 1500 calories per day - and I'm still losing weight consistently..

810 calories a day? Why the flip would you do that? That's stupid.

    Please eat real food.

The core of the Diet in the UK is a very-low-calorie diet (VLCD), as low as 440 calories/day, combined with minerals, vitamins and fatty acids to reduce the loss of nutrients typical of low calorie restriction.

The diet formula is intended to imitate the weight loss properties of starvation, while providing enough protein to protect lean tissue, the right level of carbohydrate to promote a mild ketosis and eliminate a sense of hunger, and the right levels of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and essential fatty acids to maintain good health.

If its the same as this Cambridge diet, I'd highly suggest staying away from this.

In what world is 810 calories a day not a "really low calorie step?"

Pink I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I put myself on a 1200 cal a day diet with exercise at least 3 times a week as well as working 12 hour shifts and the weight wasn't coming off :-(

I don't know if it's a medical thing or the food I was eating within those 1200 calories were just the wrong things to eat.

Are you weighing all your food? I thought I was eating under 1200 calories until I got a food scale and actually weighed my food. What I thought was "one serving" of most of the things I ate, was actually closer to two servings and sometimes more than that, even though I was using a measuring cup! Since I have starting weighing my food I have been able to meet my goal of losing 2 lbs a week.

Also, take measurements. The scale may not move, but you could be losing inches!

I did the Cambridge diet years ago and have never forgotten how ill it made me after six weeks. I felt faint, had palpitations, vomiting and headaches. I lost some weight o.k. but then put it all back on again VERY QUICKLY. I would never advise anyone to try this diet. CICO is the way to go!
