New to weight lifting and need advice!!!

I am a 48 male and I have been skinny most of my life until I got a desk job. Now I am skinny fat and want to start lifting weights to slim down and also gain muscle. I have no idea where to start so I am looking for some help to get me going correctly. Looking for some kind of routine. Help Please!!!

What type of equipment do you have access to? Gym membership or are you wanting to do something at home? If at home, equipment or bodyweight routine?0

I have a gym membership and have only been doing cardio. My son also has a pretty good weight set in the basement.0 -
Stronglifts 5x5, Starting Strength, Ice Cream Fitness, New Rules of Lifting are all good barbell-based whole-body programs. I'd recommend going with one of those programs for the first year or so and move on to an intermediate program when you feel the need.0

A whole body routine 3x week is your "best bang for your buck". Follow a tried and true routine to the "T". Video your form and don't worry about how easy or light the workouts seem initially, get your form right.
