Nope, I use cico method to lose weight. I enjoy the foods I love, but with moderation. No deprivation. Best of luck to you though !0

Just out of curiosity, what is the South Beach diet providing that a "normal" well balanced diet does not?

I did SBD when I first started wanting to get in shape and had no idea where to start. I had a gut and the book cover said "Lose Belly Fat First" so that's what I went for. My belly did go down fairly quickly but I didn't know why (low carb diet/glycogen store depletion and water weight), nor was I learning about portion control.
When I got to Phase 2 and started introducing foods like pasta back into my meals I had no idea how much a serving was so I loaded up the plate like I always did. The gut came back, too.
Now I have a digital food scale and measuring cups and use MFP. I have also increased my knowledge of the human body a lot since being here.
South Beach Diet will work but isn't necessary. If you plan to continue with it I'd highly suggest getting a scale, learning portion control and reading up on glycogen stores or you may be in for a sad surprise during this Phase. CICO is true and an incredibly simple concept ( but not always easy!) and there are many excellent threads about it on MFP.0 -

There's also apps for the South beach too. One thing I like about the app is you can turn calorie count off or on. Not doing South beach myself as such...was just curious.
Good luck.0 -

Cico is the new yolo
'yolo' is a silly acronym adopted by millenials, for 'you only live once', and is the new 'seize the day'.
CICO is an acronym for 'Calories In/Calories Out', and is a very meaningful way to express how weight loss works, regardless of the way you are eating. It applies to any of the current popular diets, whether low-carb, moderation, Atkins, IIFYM, etc. It only means that you are eating fewer calories than you are burning.
It's not necessary to be rude when people are on the forum trying to be helpful, which is what we try to do when using these terms.0 -
