So, today I did my first weight lifting ever during lunch. I had a normal breakfast, and after the workout, I had a normal lunch. However, about 3 hours later, I realized I was so hungry. I was at work, and the ladies around the corner could hear my stomach growling at me. I'm home now, and I've had my dinner, and things have settled. But I'm curious, is this normal? I'd never been that hungry before between lunch and dinner. Just kind of took me by surprise.

Yeah, it's pretty common. One of the things that you can do to help with that and to maximize your recovery after lifting (so you get the benefit of all your hard work) is to do a recovery drink. Protein and carbs is best. The ideal ration is 3-5 parts easily digestible carbs to 1 part protein (whey is some of the best because it's so quickly digested compared to a lot of other protein). Chocolate milk has almost the ideal ratio (4:1) -- poor man's recovery drink.
Some will put more protein in it if they're struggling to hit their protein numbers. You'll want to get at least 1 g of protein per 1 lb of bodyweight in each day, but the overall timing isn't that important (with the exception of the recovery drink).
So will also sip BCAAs during and after lifting, especially if they're lifting fasted. I dump a scoop in my 35 oz of water and usually finish that off every session.0 -
Normal :]
Think about it like a car. If we work our car hard and drive long journeys, the car starts lagging and needing a top of fuel. This is exactly what your body is doing. You are working your body and it's telling you "I need to be topped up!" :]
Protein will definitely help.0
