I finished month one of Insanity, lost 4.5 inches around my waist and over 11 inches total, which I was really excited about. 2 weeks in I had lost 8lbs, when I weighed myself this morning I gained it all back... is my scale broken or what is happening here?

Lost inches>Gained weight that, honestly, will probably drop back down in a day or two.
I gain five pounds the day after I lift weights. Usually drop it by the end of the day.0 -
Have you taken your measurements again? Have they gone up, or do your clothes fit tighter? If not, then most of it is probably water. Check your sodium intake. If your clothes are tighter, then you need to check your diet. As your weight goes down, you have to readjust your calorie intake. Your body will not need as many calories as it did before the weight loss.0

I still lost inches this week, less than usual and in different places but still smaller0 -
You can't gain that much fat in that short amount of time. Drink lots of water and avoid high sodium food. Most likely your muscles are just retaining some water while they repair themselves. You actually have to tear muscle tissue in order to build it up, so they do need to heal a bit. Don't worry about the gain. It will go away soon.0

Does your scale need a new battery? Just something to consider. No doubt you'll get responses re: your food intake & activity, but I'll throw this out for you to check into.0

I am having the same problem and it is getting fustrating that is for sure. I am finishing my 2nd week today and I stepped on the scale and it says I gain a pound! I said to myself WHAT THE HELL! I am doing all the right things and the numbers are dropping... I have no plans on staying with the number it is telling me. I must see this number change by 25 lbs to be where I know I should be. So I am considering doing another workout to ensure this number falls to where it should.0

if it's a digital scale, you may need a new battery for it. that said the proof is in your measurements and not the numbers on the scale. Congrats on your hard work!0

I got to week six of Insanity and gave up. All because I was focusing too much on the scale. I didn't measure myself at all, but a friend had commented that my legs were looking small, and my clothes were fitting better. BUT, I had only lost five pounds and I had this mindset that I was going to lose a ton of weight with that program. So DON'T GIVE UP. Don't let the scale get in your head like it did for me!0

I keep hearing about this, but I am really oblivious to how this works- I have only ever done cardio and dieting, never included any sort of resistance work so it is a whole new world to me.0
