Who says this? Please ignore it. Exercise whatever time is best for you.
Some people have issues training later on at night as they find they can't sleep. BUT if this is not you, then please ignore it.

I go at 2:45 / 3AM. I used to go early because I was embarrased about how fat I was and didn't want anybody to point and laugh at me...Today i go early because there are no crowds, and this way I am sure i got my exercise in for the day...
I just remembered that two years ago my belly bouncing up and down on the elliptical would feel funny, lol, I dont remember at what point that wasnt a problem anymore.0 -
Why is it taboo? Did you mean "myth"?0
-
Me, personally, I work out whenever I can convince myself to do it, be that before breakfast or right before midnight.0

no i ment taboo, as in a bad thing to do.0 -
i exercise when i have time.. thats normaly at night when i have nothing to do and no one is around and im bored0

I usually exercise in the afternoons when I get home from work. On weekends, I just do it whenever I can make myself do it. But during the week, I can't make myself do it when I get up at 5am. I need that time to "pout" and drink my coffee, LOL! It's working great for me, because I don't usually have trouble sleeping being that I am on 1200mg of tegretol a day. I STAY sleepy taking that!0

Please continue. As long as it's not keeping you from sleeping, you're doing a good thing!0 -
Work out whenever you want, eat whenever you want, how ever frequent you want, and however many meals a day you want. Makes no difference(as long as same number of calories are being consumed)0

I just exercised, i had work at 6 30 this morning, there's no way im working out in the morning0

There's not a chance in hell I'm getting any less sleep to drag my *ss out of bed and exercise in the morning. I usually exercise sometime between 7:00 - 10:00pm.
I'm not sure you understand the meaning of taboo though either....
Definition of TABOO
1
: forbidden to profane use or contact because of what are held to be dangerous supernatural powers
2
a : banned on grounds of morality or taste <the subject is taboo>
b : banned as constituting a risk <the area beyond is taboo, still alive with explosives — Robert Leckie>0 -
oh ! i am sorry i do apologise for my misuse of a word please feel free to correct me anytime.0

I dunno-I see lots of taboos in the gym
re-rack the weights when you are done
wipe down the equipment if your sweaty
don't hog the cardio machines
if you're farting your are pushing too much weight
Grunting to cover farting is frowned on
men in spandex are just weird
women in spandex should be banned because the men suck in their stomachs, puff out their chest and fall over due to o2 deprivation
ok, that was my attempt at humor- see what happens with calorie restriction?
when you exercise is a personal preference. I work out at 5:30 Pm because there is a gym in my building and it is convenient.
whatever keeps you coming back, is what you need to do.0 -
The only reason I can think of to not work out at night is that you may have a harder time getting to sleep immediately afterwards. I know it takes me roughly an hour or so to wind down, maybe more following a very intense session. But other than that? Go for it.0

Yup, don't piss yourself while running. I intend to not break that taboo.0 -

I exercise when I have time and it's often at night or can be during the day. Remember everyone is different and if it works for you then do it. No point in setting yourself up to quit if you don't like to exercise during the day. Everyone has a different life style and a different schedule so what might not work for someone else might work for you. If its helping with your weight loss and you can sleep when its time to go to bed then go for it!0 -
haha.. nice to see a sense of humour on here
i was thinking it was a croc of ..... to not exercise at night , its like ive been told not to eat after 8pm becaue ill gain weight?? why? am i gonna turn into a gremlin? :P
everyone finds out your trying to lose weight and they have all these 'old wives tales' you cant do this you must do that... id rather asked people that actually have experience and its worked0 -
I go in the am, usually between 530 and 6. Smaller crowds, less dueschbags to deal with, and it doesn't take away family time. I also do my cardio at lunch, Gym is 2 min from office.0

Twice a day for me, I enjoy a 5k run/walk every morning, then just to get rid of the excess physical energy of a day sitting on my butt at work, I will either do a bike ride, walk or do a circuit training routine.0
-
I workout whenever I feel like it. Hell I have done pushups at midnight.0
-
For running (competition day) one taboo is to never try anything new. If you don't know how your body will react to a new breakfast/gel/supplement, you definitely don't want to find out on race day!0
-
I say workout whenever feels best to you. I know I am super energized after a good workout, so I try to not to workout out too late or else I will be awake most of the night. Usually I just workout whenever I have time during the day, but lately I've been really feeling the morning workouts. My day ends up being a lot more productive.0

I'm definitely a morning girl. Roll out of bed, weigh myself ( that's the best motivator for me!), then straight to the gym. I'm usually on the elliptical for about half an hour before I really wake up and by then my workouts almost done, so it works well for me. Then I feel great for the rest of the day knowing I started the day off right, and am less likely to go off track.
If I do have to go in the afternoon, I really don't like it. My tummy feels full from lunch still, and the air at the gym isn't cool enough, and I;m just plain uncomfortable.
When you work out is just personal preference. Whatever it takes to get you there and moving and burning calories is better than doing nothing.
**No matter how slow you go, you're still lapping everybody on the couch**0 -
My boss, who ran a 50-mile race last year, used to work a full day, have dinner with his family, then run from 9 to midnight. Not that I'm recommending that!
I don't like AM workouts and do them only if it's the only time I can fit them in (e.g. on business trips). I prefer late afternoon, when my attention starts to lag, and I hit the company gym. That's been working for me for the last 5 or 6 years.0 -
since it's summer here in AZ i have to switch to day, vs. Night. that's the only reason I have to actually get myself up to exercise. Other than that, exercising at night makes me sleepier0
