Chia Seeds

I just started adding Chia Seeds to my diet. Any suggestions as to when is the best time to eat them? I'm presently taking them in the morning with my coffee.

Morning is good as long as that suits you. Any time is as good as another.

Milled Flaxseed is another superfood that I keep on hand along side my chia seeds. Since chia seeds are roughly 60-70 calories per 1 tablespoon and flax seeds 70 calories per two tablespoons, I tend to use flaxseed a bit more. Practically tasteless, I add flaxseed to everything I bake (can be used as s substitution for egg). I also use in my smoothies, yogurt, and even in spaghetti sauce. The health benefits are phenomenal. Just be sure to log what you eat as too much of a good thing can still put you over your calorie limit.

Weigh them and add them to anything. Salad, yogurt, cottage cheese being my favorites.

I find they're not as economical as other seeds for the health benefit I feel I get. Flax, pepita, sunflower are much less expensive weighed against their nutrition, IMO. If all I'm looking for is some added protein, I find protein powder a bit more flexible and way cheaper for more things than chia.

NOT when enjoying a nice salad. Nothing like getting those little things stuck in your teeth!

Oh, I add mine to the dressing so they goop up... should have been more clear :)

I use them to replace eggs when baking muffins or pancakes, it's cheaper that way. I eat them as breakfast pudding. I use them to make no-cook jam. So I guess my answer would be breakfast or dessert, but really it's up to you to eat when you want.

I like adding chia seeds to smoothies. I soak them in the liquid for about 10 minutes first. They don't stick in my teeth this way.

I too find that flax seeds are more versatile. I grind up about 30 grams at a time and add 5 - 10 grams to food throughout the day.

I like them in the half-carrot/half-sour-cherry juice that I enjoy. They swell up, but keep a tiny bit of crunch. Actually, I like them in anything. They're much more pleasant that the psyllium fiber you find in Metamucil.

Timing isn't important, but personally I like to soak them in sweet almond milk overnight and eat them as a dessert the following day.

I don't think they're really "worth" the calorie count to add to things without first giving them time to gel, but as a pudding-like treat, I love them.

I like them as a cereal in the morning, I don't like adding to smoothie bc it gets stuck on the jar of blender. I put em in protein balls.
