The only reason I still have my FB account is so family that live out of state have access to pictures and updated about me and my daughter. I could really do without the crazy stalker step-mother from my ex-husbands side of the family (she’s been blocked under three different names). Another thing I don’t like about FB is the constant game requests. Sorry Grandma, I don’t want to help you out on your farm by planting corn or milking your cows.0

Haha! worst Grandaughter ever :P0 -
I use FB for a lot more than keeping up with friends, reconnecting with those from the past, sharing pictures, and chatting. I also subscribe to town and base pages and keep up with what's going on base or in town. Want to go do something fun? Oh hey, cool...it is advertised for me. I lived abroad for a few years and used it to ask questions on where to find things, how thig s work, etc. I also was connected to other people who connected me to other people who otherwise provided some very neat opportunities I wouldn't have otherwise had. I use it to read newspaper articles. I use it to find out what is happening legally, socially and politically to causes I personally find important. I connect with advocacy agencies. I even use to research companies I'm thinking of applying for jobs. Once I got past the games, pictures and regular statuses, I found more uses for it.0

Exactly.
The self-righteousness of this, yet posting it on a site that is, um, free and just Facebook with a fitness theme.0 -
My Facebook has a simple rule - If I ran into you in the street, would I buy you a beer? If the answer is no - you aren't on the friends list.
I check it a couple times a day, largely ignore most of whats posted and update my status maybe once a week. But its brilliant for keeping in touch with friends and family all over.
It really is what you make of it.0 -
I am thinking about deleting it because I find myself watching other people's lives and moping about how much better they have it than me. Such an unhealthy feeling I know. I see them out enjoying their slim figures, rich husbands, exciting holidays, high achieving kids...... <snip>
Please remember that almost everyone has trials in their lives and those don't get posted on FB unless you're a real drama queen. So, what you're seeing is the glossy exterior, not the impending divorces, rebellious adolescents, chronic illnesses, etc. When I flew to a business meeting on a private plane, I posted the pic of me at the steps of the plane. I don't post about my husband having a bad night when itching and sweating attacks from his polycythemia keep him up. I deleted one guy because all he posted was food porn (recipes for million-dollar spaghetti casserole and blueberry cheesecake muffins). I have a SIL who has no life except to click "Like" on everything and post pictures of roses with "Please repost if you have a sister you love with all your heart" and similar stuff.
Personally, it's been great for me because I keep up with friends and family members with whom I might have lost touch. A cousin I haven't seen since 1999 came through our area last night with her 3 kids on a road trip and they spent the night here; we probably would have lost touch were it not for FB. I'm going to her sister's wedding in October. FB again. When you've been able to get glimpses of lives of family and friends, you're more comfortable calling them and getting together when you're in their area.
Oh, and that guy with the gorgeous red hair that I had a crush on in HS? His hair is long and stringy and he's got a beer gut. ;-)0 -
facebook bores me to death and there are too many creepers0

I need Facebook because I live abroad and it's the only way to keep in touch with a lot of family members and friends, it's also good for finding events where I live as I move from country to country every 6-12 months.
However, sometimes I do wish there was another way as the serial updaters and game requests do drive me a bit mad sometimes.0 -
I detest FaceBook with a passion. That being said, I have an account that I check maybe once a month.0

You can shut off updates from specific games. When you get one, let your mouse hover over the upper right hand corner till you get an arrow. I think you need to click on that and one of the options is to Hide updates for specific games. It will save you a lot of stupid posts.0 -
I deactivated my account as i got bored of it. Too many losers kicking about.
Been off it nearly 8 months now. best choice i have made.0 -
Gave it up for the year. Studies show that people who get addicted to facebook lead boring lives, as they are too busy reading about what everyone else is out doing.
So now I'm out doing things.0 -
I deactivated mine almost a year ago. I really don't like the drama that always got wrapped up on facebook, I can't help but laugh when people fight over what was said or done on facebook lol. I also got pretty tired of knowing more than I cared to about everyone other than my close friends.0

I deactivated my account some time ago. Too many stalkers and too much drama.0
-
I have only a nominal presence on Facebook. I never bought into the idea of living my life as if in a fishbowl.0
-
I have NEVER had a FB account nor will I ever....MFP and LinkedIn are the extent of my social networking.0
-
I have friends all over the country. I hate seeing them delete their account. With people always getting new cell phones, it's about the only way I can stay in touch.0
-
I deleted mine. I had it for family and a few friends that are out of state. They didn't notice I was gone0

Never went on Facebook, My Space or any of those sites - I always felt like there's a stigma attached to guys my age being on there looking for 16 year old girlfriends. As far as the people from my past are concerned, if you're somebody I want to be in touch with I already am. A friend of mine opened a FB account & deleted it a day later because of all the friend requests he was getting from people he didn't like and/or who didn't like him. That's gotta make you wonder - if we didn't like each other 30+ years ago, why should we be friends now?
As for friends on a site like MFP, that's different - we have a common goal in trying to get healthy & can support each other. There's a purpose, & having somebody trying to do the same thing to help motivate is a great thing. Plus, there's no drama from the past.....0 -
I've thought a lot about getting off of there. Lately, it feels no different from my RL mailbox - mostly junk mail with all the shared pics of random junk, political statements that just make me mad, and only occasionally a bit of news from a contact that is actually meaningful. For some stupid reason, I keep logging on to see if I missed something to find that no, I didn't.0
